SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Head Coach Anthony Bozzella and the Seton Hall women’s basketball team have rounded out the 2016-17 roster with a pair of additions, welcoming transfer Taylor Brown (Paterson, N.J.) and incoming freshman Jayla Jones-Pack (Amityville, N.Y.). The pair will be part of a class of eight newcomers for the Pirates, who graduated five seniors off the 2015-16 NCAA Tournament squad.

Per NCAA Transfer rules, Brown will sit out the 2016-17 season after playing her freshman campaign at Western Kentucky and is expected to have three years of eligibility remaining. Jones-Pack, a 6-4 forward/center, becomes the seventh freshmen in the incoming class.

Jayla Jones-Pack | 6’4 | F/C | Amityville, N.Y. | St. Anthony’s

Before SHU: Starred for St. Anthony’s at the high school level…led St. Anthony’s to a 24-4 record and the CHSAA Class AA state title as a senior…named the CHSAA Player of the Year as a senior…NYSSWA Second Team All-State for Class AA…Newsday and MSG Varsity All-Long Island...averaged 12.3 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game as a senior…ranked a three-star prospect with an overall grade of 90 by ESPN.

Bozzella on Jones-Pack: “Jayla is an extremely athletic post player who we see with the ability to play both the four and the five in our system. She is an excellent rebounder and an instinctive shot-blocker with offensive game ranging from inside out to beyond the arc.”

Taylor Brown | 6’0 | F | Paterson, N.J. | Western Kentucky/Eastside

Before SHU: Spent her freshman 2015-16 season at Western Kentucky…appeared in 30 games for a Hilltopper squad that went 27-7 overall and 15-3 in Conference USA…averaged 4.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in 14.9 minutes per game…led WKU with a 51.8 percent field goal percentage…at Eastside High School, was named New Jersey Player of the Year as a junior and NJ.com Big North Player of the Year as a senior...NJ.com All-State as a senior…averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds per game her senior season, leading Eastside to a 24-4 record.

Bozzella on Brown: “We are so excited that Taylor decided to come home to New Jersey. She was a top-100 recruit coming out of high school and her potential is off-the-charts. Her low-post game is extremely advanced for someone her age and we believe she can become one of the top rebounders in the BIG EAST.”

Brown and Jones-Pack join an incoming class that includes Ali Fitzgerald (Penfield, N.Y.), Kaela Hilaire (Floral Park, N.Y.), Shadeen Samuels (Ossining, N.Y.), Tyeisha Smith (Baltimore, Md.), Skyler Snider (Kearney, Neb.) and Deja Winters (Richmond Heights, Ohio). The Pirates went 23-9 last season, finishing second in the BIG EAST with a 12-6 record and reaching the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season.

7 freshman is a large group to integrate in one season plus JaQuan Richardson , the transfer becomes eligible this year . This upcoming season's team will have 7 freshman and 4 sophomores which makes it Tony's youngest team in his tenure but one with a lot of promise.

You can do so much more in women's BB than men's with the extra 3 'ships allowed.

Great gets for us. Welcome ladies.

Any news on where Talyor Byrne will wind up?

Don't forget they're going to get 10 days of practice in August followed by 4-5 games in Canada.

That should help to give the team a head start when practice opens a few weeks later.
