South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall men's basketball team will play an 11-game non-conference schedule to tip off the 2021-22 season with six games taking place inside Prudential Center, the program announced Thursday. With six games slated for Newark, the Pirates will look to continue their dominance in home non-conference competition as they are 74-11 (.871) all-time at Prudential Center outside of BIG EAST play.

Season tickets for all 16 men's basketball games at Prudential Center are on sale both for the general population and for Seton Hall University students by visiting SetonHallTix.com/seasontickets. For additional season ticket information, call the ticket office at (973) 275-4255. Mini-plans and single-game tickets will go on sale later this fall. All tickets in 2021-22 are mobile, and fans can download the SHU Pirates mobile app on all iOS and Android smartphones to manage their tickets via account manager.

The 20-game BIG EAST Conference schedule, which will include 10 home dates at Prudential Center, as well as game times and television assignments are still to be determined.

Once again, Seton Hall will challenge itself in the non-conference with a strong set of games that will prepare the team for the rigors of BIG EAST play. The Pirates' non-conference opponents combine for six NCAA Tournament appearances from last season and have an average NET rating of 78 with up to five opponents in the top 40.

The season will commence on Wednesday, Nov. 10, when the Pirates host Fairleigh Dickinson at Prudential Center in the 24th all-time meeting between the two teams. Four days later, the Pirates will host Yale at Prudential Center in a campus game of the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off.

On Tuesday, Nov. 16, the Pirates will head to Ann Arbor, Mich., to face the Michigan Wolverines for the first time since Dec. 23, 1989. This game is a part of the Gavitt Tip-Off Games, which The Hall is 2-2 in with wins over Iowa and Indiana.

The Pirates will participate in the main portion of the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off Nov. 22 and 24, facing Ohio State in the semifinals before taking on either Cal or Florida.

Upon return from Florida, the Pirates will finish the non-conference slate with five home games and a visit to New York City. First, the Pirates will host Bethune-Cookman at Prudential Center on Sunday, Nov. 28 and then will welcome Nyack College to historic Walsh Gymnasium on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Then The Hall will have a huge second week of December at Prudential Center, hosting Texas in a BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle on Thursday, Dec. 9 and then hosting in-state rival Rutgers on Sunday, Dec. 12 in the latest installment of the Garden State Hardwood Classic. The Pirates lead the all-time series 40-31.

Just before conference play begins, the Pirates will visit Madison Square Garden to take on Iona on Saturday, Dec. 18 as part of the Gotham Classic.

Led by 12th year head coach Kevin Willard, the Pirates return four of their top six scorers from last season, add four transfers who have combined for over 1,400 career Div. I points scored and bring in a top-25 rated freshman recruiting class that will help Seton Hall once again compete for another conference championship and NCAA Tournament bid.

Couple of thoughts

Love all the high majors, but this schedule may be too challenging for this squad.

No reason to play a D-2 school.

7-4 or 8-3 at best.

Nyack clearly a free game … in the past they haven’t played a 31st game when they could have. Obviously they couldn’t match up with a worry opponent or else they would have, and playing a game that doesn’t count is better than someone in the 300s who drags down your metrics.

My thoughts exactly. Run some plays that seem risky against good teams. Try out some lineups that would not ordinarily get much run in a competitive game.

Much of the team’s success this year will hinge on how quickly they learn to play together

When is the last time we played an exhibition game after the season started? Is this common practice around the NCAA?

Very impressive OOC schedule. Really looking forward to the Iona game.
What's the deal with Nyack College? Is there a Seton Hall connection there?
I know there are many variables that go into scheduling, but..... how about St. Peter's or Monmouth or St. Francis or LIU or Columbia or Fordham or Fairfield? I see Nyack is playing St. Peter's.

some really good teams and a bunch of rollovers. seems to be the recipe for success these days. no reason to play toss ups

Non Division I games are "real" games but they don't count towards your record or any metrics when the NCAA selection committee sits down to evaluate the team sheet.
Exactly. We already have a brutal schedule.

Let's not forget we are still in a Covid pandemic and there is a good chance there will be issues with the schedule because of it. Secondly D2 school on the schedule is not good if someone gets injured in a game that has NO importance.

You can’t change how you do things out of fear of injuries. It’s the 31st game when they’ve played 30 in the past with the option of 31, so what if someone had gotten hurt in the extra practice day that they would have had?

There is a slight difference when you are performing in a game competing with people watching and cheering. Adrenaline kicks in and the competitive spirit is present. It is not the same as practice. Who knows who at that point in time needs to impress the coach etc..
