The Jekyll & Hyde season continues for Seton Hall basketball following its dismantling of the Butler Bulldogs at Hinkle Fieldhouse to the tune of 70-49 on Saturday afternoon.
The Pirates broke open the game early, dropping the matchup’s first 4 points before a 13-2 run would give the Hall a lead it would never relinquish, heading into the half 38-18 and leading by as many as 27 points before coasting to the 70-49 victory. Seton Hall gained an early advantage when Butler center Manny Bates picked up his 2nd personal foul with just under 17:26 minutes to go in the first half and the Pirates leading 5-4.
Indianapolis-native Dre Davis led the Pirates with 15 points in his homecoming before exiting with a lower body injury late in the second half. The Pirates also saw 11 points from Al-Amir Dawes, 10 points each from Kadary Richmond and K.C. Ndefo and 9 points from Femi Odukale.
Simas Lukosius paced the Bulldogs with 11 points and 4 rebounds while Jalen Thomas chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds off the bench.
One week after turning the ball over 26 times at home against Marquette, the Pirates yielded only 9 turnovers to Butler’s 13 and turned those turnovers into a 15 to 8-point advantage.
Seton Hall shot 47.5% from the field and 38.9% from beyond the arc while limiting the Bulldogs to 37.3% and 23.5%, respectively.
The Hall outrebounded Butler 31-27, adding 13 second chance points to 4 for the Bulldogs.
The victory completes the Pirates’ season sweep of Butler and is the Pirates’ 7th win in its last 8 contests against the Bulldogs.
The Pirates remain on the road for Wednesday night’s tilt in Queens, N.Y. against St. John’s before returning home for a Sunday matinee against the DePaul Blue Demons. The Pirates are looking to complete series sweeps against both programs as well.
