PHILADELPHIA, PA. – In a celebratory offensive explosion, the Seton Hall softball team (11-9, 4-0 BIG EAST) defeated DePaul (10-12, 0-4 BIG EAST), 15-3 in five innings, at Cacciatore Stadium to help Head Coach Angie Churchill to the 100th win of her Seton Hall tenure.

How It Happened

A warm and peaceful March afternoon in Chicago turned explosive when the Pirates stepped up to the plate to open the game. After putting two runners on with two outs, the terrorizing Seton Hall offense meticulously dismantled the Blue Demons' starting pitcher with a monstrous two-out rally. An Olivia Gilbert single scored Taylor Hill, which was immediately followed by an Andrea Perez lacing a double into left field to score Kelsey Carr and make it a 2-0 Pirates lead. After Caroline Hobbes was hit-by-pitch to load the bases, the Pirates capped off the inning with a trio of walks and a single to make it a 6-0 Seton Hall lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Carr walked two batters before allowing a home run to centerfield and cutting The Hall's lead to 3, 6-3. From that point on, however, Carr only allowed two more hits and no walks for the remainder of the game.

In the top of the second, the Pirates launched into action once again with another fervent two out rally that cycled through the entire lineup. Already on their second pitcher of the game, the Pirates once again loaded the bases. This time, a quartet of bases-loaded walks brought across four runs and forced a pitching change before the innings end. After leading off the inning with a single, Hannah Alexander field out to right field to end the inning with the Pirates in front 10-3.

The final salvo of the Pirates' unforgiving cannon fodder came in the third inning. Perez's double led her to scoring on a Hobbes single, making it an 11-3 Seton Hall lead. The Hall all but ended the game with what came next. After loading the bases once again, Katey Brennan stepped to the plate. A heated duel between pitcher and hitter ended when Brennan drove the ball over the wall in left center for her first home run of the year, a grand slam, to put the Pirates up 15-3 through three innings.

Back in the circle, Carr retired nine of the next ten batters, securing the 15-3 win for the Pirates. With the win, Head Coach Angie Churchill collected the 100th victory of her Seton Hall tenure.
