The Hall will appear in four tournaments and host Fordham (Oct. 17) in a dual match this fall
Aug. 25, 2015
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The 2015-16 Seton Hall University women’s tennis fall schedule will open on Friday, September 18 when the Pirates return to the Quinnipiac Invitational for the first of four tournaments to be played in 2015. The fall portion of the 2015-16 slate also offers at opportunity to catch The Hall in action at home as Atlantic 10 power Fordham will visit New Jersey for a dual match on Saturday, October 17.
Tourney Time
The fall slate is filled with four tournament dates that will see the Pirates go up against the top programs from throughout the east coast. After traveling to Quinnipiac where Katie Kim (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Marisa Quevedo (Tyler, Texas) met in the B flight final in what was their collegiate debuts last year, SHU heads to the U.S. Military Academy for the West Point Invitational (Sept. 25-27). The Hall will also visit Annapolis, Md. for the Navy Blue & Gold Invitational in early October (9-11), returning to the scene of its lone doubles championship of 2014 which was captured by Kim and Class of 2015 member Madison Shoemaker. The 2015 ITA Northeast Regional will be hosted by Dartmouth College over five days from October 22-26; rounding out the autumn. Last season, Seton Hall sent four of its eight players to the regional stage – all of whom are returning - as Quevedo, classmate Luize Strike (Riga, Latvia) and seniors Hannah Liljekvist (Djursholm, Sweden) and Julia Keenan (Greenland, N.H.) all earned a spot.
Leading the Way
A two-time All-BIG EAST honoree, Liljekvist was elected team captain for the upcoming season. The senior transferred to South Orange in advance of her sophomore campaign and has earned all-conference recognition in both of her seasons in blue & white. After starring behind all-time great Chloe Sher in 2014, Liljekvist assumed the top-spot in the Pirates’ singles lineup last season, helping SHU to a no. 6 seed in the conference tournament. Liljekvist finished among the team leaders in wins, trailing only classmate Isabell Klingert (Oberbalbach, Germany) who posted 22 individual victories in her first season at The Hall.
Impact Additions
The fall schedule will provide an introduction for the two new Pirates that signed on to join head coach Greg Wyzykowski’s squad as Anna Fajnorova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Thandy Kangwa (Fort Myers, Fla.) will get their first taste of collegiate competition. An extremely accomplished amateur player who has been ranked among the top-10 nationally in her age group, Fajnorova comes to South Orange with a wealth of experience against top-flight competition. A Sunshine State standout who boasts an equally impressive resume, Kangwa was a three-time All-Area Player of the Year for Fort Myers and advanced all the way to the FHSAA Class AAA finals in both singles and doubles as a senior.
