PREVIEW
Seton Hall will return to the road this weekend as it travels to Louisville, Kentucky for the Active Ankle Challenge hosted by the Cardinals. The Pirates will face Ohio on Friday at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, they’ll face host Louisville at 10:00 a.m. and then Utah at 5:30 p.m.

The Pirates are coming off a three-match sweep of their own Seton Hall Classic last weekend, which saw them play some of their best volleyball in recent memory. The Hall won its first-ever match over Notre Dame, in 19 tries, in sweeping fashion. The Hall was so dominant, it recorded 33 more kills than the Fighting Irish, the largest single-match differential for the Pirates since 2007. On Saturday, the Pirates outlasted Hofstra in five sets, before sweeping Temple in the nightcap for the tournament crown. Grace Forren (La Jolla, Calif.), Amanda Hansen (Pewaukee, Wis.) and Cherise Hennigan (Corona, Calif.) were named to the Seton Hall Classic All-Tournament Team. For two double-doubles in three matches, Forren was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.

Ohio will provide a strong test for the Pirates. The Bobcats enter this weekend with a record of 5-2, which includes a four-set victory over No. 10 Kentucky and a five-set win against BIG EAST foe Xavier. Ohio is currently receiving 20 votes in the most recent AVCA Top-25 Poll. The teams have met only once before, a four-set victory for the Bobcats in 1995.

Louisville presents a familiar foe for Seton Hall as the Cardinals were a former member of the BIG EAST Conference before joining the ACC two seasons ago. Louisville has won eight of nine all-time meetings against the Pirates, including their last match, a three-set sweep at Cardinal Arena on Oct. 6, 2012. The Cardinals have lost their last two matches, but they were against strong competition in Minnesota and Wisconsin. One of the Cardinals’ two victories came in five-sets over defending BIG EAST Champion Creighton on Aug. 29.

The Pirates have never faced Utah, which also enters the Active Ankle Challenge with a record of 5-2. The Utes are coming off an impressive five-set victory at Gonzaga.

SETON HALL NOTES
PIRATES WIN SETON HALL CLASSIC

Seton Hall won all three of its matches in its own Seton Hall Classic over the weekend, losing only two sets along the way. The Pirates swept Notre Dame on Friday before beating Hofstra in five sets on Saturday and sweeping Temple in the championship match Saturday evening.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
The Pirates landed three players on the Seton Hall Classic All-Tournament Team. Grace Forren, Amanda Hansen and Cherise Hennigan were all honored for their three-match performance.

FORREN NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Grace Forren was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Labor Day. The outside hitter came just two kills away in the weekend’s final match from recording double-doubles in all three matches. Named to the Seton Hall Classic All-Tournament Team, she is the first Pirate to earn Freshman of the Week honors since teammate Amanda Hansen earned the award on Sept. 24, 2012.

A HISTORIC WIN
Seton Hall swept Notre Dame on Sept. 4, giving the Pirates their first-ever victory over the Fighting Irish in 20 all-time matches. Prior to the Pirates’ victory, The Hall had won only four sets in 19 matches.

400-BLOCK CLUB
With six blocks vs. Hofstra, senior Amanda Hansen became the fifth player in Seton Hall history to record 400 for her career. The other four are Claudia Vaccarone (675), Perette Arrington (494), Silvia Watson (463) and Jennifer Mumby (415).

DIGS TOP-10
Junior Tessa Fournier has moved into the top-10 of career digs at Seton Hall. She’s is currently eighth with 1,125.

FABULOUS FRESHMEN
Seton Hall’s newcomers played like veterans during the UNLV Tournament. Freshman Cherise Hennigan led the team over the weekend with 2.82 kills per set. Sophia Coffey finished a combined three digs shy of double-doubles in all three contests.

FOURNIER, HANSEN PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST
Junior Tessa Fournier and senior Amanda Hansen were named to the 12-person 2015 All-BIG EAST Preseason Team. Creighton’s Jess Bird was named Preseason Player of the Year.

PRESEASON POLL
Seton Hall was picked sixth in this year’s BIG EAST Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Pirates were also picked sixth last season, but finished second in the conference with a record 15 BIG EAST victories. Creighton was the unanimous conference favorite, followed by Marquette and Xavier. St. John’s was picked fourth and Butler fifth. Seton Hall fell to Creighton, 3-1, in the 2014 BIG EAST Championship game.

PIRATES ADD SEVEN
With the addition of seven freshmen, Seton Hall will have more newcomers than veterans in 2015. The Hall welcomes Sophia Coffey, Grace Forren, Cherise Hennigan, Miranda Higginbotham, Caitlin Koska, Abby Thelen and Amy Vandegriff to the volleyball family. With a very young squad, as many as four could crack the starting lineup from the season’s start.

BIG EAST DIGITAL NETWORK
The BIG EAST Conference announced its BIG EAST Digital Network schedule for 2015-16 and four Seton Hall volleyball matches are included. The Pirates will have one home match and three road matches featured on the Fox Sports Go app. A rematch of the BIG EAST Championship last year between the Pirates and Creighton in Omaha will be show on Sept. 25 as will the match when The Hall travels to St. John’s on Oct. 14. Seton Hall’s match at Butler on Nov. 8 will be shown as will its final home match of the season vs. Providence on Nov. 21.

NEW LOCATION FOR BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP
The 2015 BIG EAST Volleyball Championship will be conducted Nov. 27-28 in Omaha, Neb. The top four teams, based on regular-season conference records, will qualify for the event and will be seeded according to their finish in the league standings. The 34th annual championship will be hosted by Creighton University at D.J. Sokol Arena. The champion receives the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship.
