SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's basketball team erased an early 10-point deficit with a huge second-quarter run en route to an 82-66 victory over Xavier on Friday night at Walsh Gymnasium. Tabatha Richardson-Smith (Bay City, Texas) went for 27 points, seven rebounds and five assists to pace The Hall while Shakena Richardson (Neptune, N.J.) punched in a career-high 23 points on 11-of-15 shooting. The Pirates (15-4, 5-3 BIG EAST) improve to 5-0 all-time against Xavier (14-5, 5-3 BIG EAST) with the triumph.
After falling behind 21-11 late in the first quarter, the Pirates reeled off a 7-0 run to close within three heading to the second. The run stretched to 35-7 late in the second quarter as the Pirates were able to build a double-digit lead heading to the half. The Hall kept up the pressure throughout the third and fourth quarters, never leading by less than 12 in the second half.
Richardson and Richardson-Smith each eclipsed the 20-point mark for the second-straight game, combining for 50 points on 22-of-34 shooting. Lubirdia Gordon (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) had a solid day on the defensive end with six rebounds, four blocks and two steals to go with six points, while Richardson notched four steals and Jordan Mosley (Orlando, Fla.) snagged three off the bench. The Pirates shot a season-best 54.0 percent from the floor and held Xavier to a 37.3 percent mark.

A 3-pointer from Aliyah Zantt gave Xavier a 21-11 lead with 1:29 to play in the first quarter, before the Pirates reeled off a 7-0 run in the final 1:03 of the opening stanza to close to a possession. Richardson-Smith opened the second period with a game-tying 3-pointer, sparking a 12-2 run to open the period and push the Pirate lead to 30-23 with 7:22 to play in the second quarter. Both spurts were part of a massive 33-7 run that saw the score swing from 21-11 Xavier late in the first to 46-30 Seton Hall heading into halftime.
