South Orange, N.J. -- The Seton Hall men's soccer team, coming off its third BIG EAST Tournament trip in the previous four seasons, aims to build on that success in year seven under head coach Andreas Lindberg as the Pirates travel down to Miami to open their 2024 season against FIU Thursday night at FIU Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m.

The Pirates will face three teams on their 2024 schedule that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season, including FIU. This is the second-ever meeting between the two schools; the Panthers took the first decision, 2-1, back on Sept. 8, 2019. Always a strong program, the Panthers have made three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and received a national seed in 2021 and 2022.

YEAR SEVEN FOR LINDBERG

  • Lindberg is 43-36-20 (.535) in his six seasons at the helm of the Pirates.
  • The Pirates are 4-0-2 in season openers under Lindberg
  • The Pirates have made it to the BIG EAST Tournament in three different seasons under Coach Lindberg, including winning the BIG EAST Tournament Championship in 2020, the school's first since 1991.
  • Lindberg has led the Pirates to two NCAA Tournament appearances in the last four seasons, including a run to the quarterfinals in 2020.
FAMILIAR FACES

  • The Pirates will be returning 22 players from last years roster, including nine players who registered a point and six players who scored a goal.
  • The 22 returning players account for 12,126 of the 16,793 total minutes played last season, with Liam Guske (St. John's, Fla.) leading the group with 1,446 minutes played.
  • Twenty-three players on the 31-man roster are upperclassmen with four graduate students, seven seniors, and 12 juniors.
  • Graduate student Jared Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) is the leading points returner from last season; he produced a career-high nine points on two goals and five assists.
  • The Pirates look to build on their defensive presence with the bulk of the back line returning after posting five shutouts last season.
FIRST YEAR AT THE HALL

  • The Pirates welcome eight new players to the program, including graduate student goalkeeper Soren Jensen (Nyborg, Denmark) from Post University. He was the CACC Goalkeeper of the Year, CACC All-Conference first team, D2CCA All-East Region second team, and United Soccer Coaches' All-East Region first team.
  • Two freshmen will be suiting up in Pirate blue this season including Til Kauschke (Hamburg, Germany) and Akira Bofinger (Summit, N.J.).
PRESEASON COACHES POLL

  • The Pirates were picked to finish fifth in the BIG EAST's East Division and ninth overall with 28 points.
