AGAINST VILLANOVA AND BUTLER
With the adjusted league schedule this past spring, the Pirates didn't play Butler but played Villanova twice. The Wildcats were able to get by The Hall with late goals in double overtime in both contests as Villanova won 2-1 on March 18 and April 8 in the Pirates' regular season finale.

Butler leads the all-time series with the Pirates, 5-1-1, with its lone defeat coming in the first meeting between the two programs on Sept. 29, 2013, a 3-0 win for The Hall.

QUICK KICKS
  • With 10 regular season games still to play, the Pirates have already matched their best win total since 2016.
  • Seton Hall (5-3) is off to its best start through eight games since also starting 5-3 in 2012.
  • After wining back-to-back games at home against Iona, 6-3, and Lehigh, 1-0, the Pirates dropped a tough 2-0 decision to Columbia on Sept. 17.
  • The Pirates edged the Lions in shots on goal, 7-6.
  • Seton Hall has four freshman that have started in seven or more games this season: midfielders Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.) and Cara Milne-Redhead (Clitheroe, England), forward Sophie Liston (Newcastle West, Ireland) and defender Phoebe Hampson (Cheshire, England).
  • Freshman Chiara Pucci (Munich, Germany) has started the last three games for the Pirates on the backline.
  • Junior Grace Gordon (Chester Springs, Pa.) and the Seton Hall defense have posted four clean sheets this season with the most recent coming in the 1-0 victory over Lehigh on Sept. 12.
  • Offensively, senior Naomi Welch (Livingston, Scotland) leads the Pirates with four goals and is tied for the team lead with three assists.
  • As the forward up top, 10 of Welch's 19 shots taken this season have been on goal.
  • Junior Julia Aronov (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), who did not play at Columbia, was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Sept. 13 after finishing with a league-best seven points in a 2-0 week for the Pirates.

VILLANOVA, PA. – Senior Laura Hooper (Watford, England) found the back of the net twice late in the second half to lead the Seton Hall women's soccer team to a 2-1 win in its BIG EAST opener at Villanova on Thursday afternoon.

The Pirates improved to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the BIG EAST with the victory.

After finishing second on the team in goals last season, Hooper hadn't gotten into the scoring column through eight games this season. But in the 72nd minute, she delivered a strike to the top right corner from outside the box to put the Pirates ahead 1-0. Freshman Caroline Lipton (Alexandria, Va.) helped break the scoreless tie with her first career assist.

The Wildcats quickly equalized five minutes later but Hooper responded again, providing the game-winner with some help from freshmen Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.) and Sophie Liston (Newcastle West, Ireland).

Quick Kicks
  • The Pirates' win over the Wildcats marked their first win in a BIG EAST opener since 2013 when they beat Providence, 1-0, at Owen T. Carroll Field on Sept. 26.
  • The victory also marked the first time Seton Hall won their conference season debut on the road since a 3-2 overtime victory at Georgetown on Sept. 16, 2011.
  • With nine games to play, Seton Hall has its most wins in a season since winning seven games in 2012.
  • Hooper now has seven goals in her career as a Pirate and 12 in four-plus collegiate seasons.
  • Liston now has a team-best four assists on the season and Tavana has tallied three.
  • The Hall scored twice in the second half, its first goals in the second half this season.
  • Villanova finished with a 19-16 advantage in shots, including a 12-6 margin after halftime.
  • Junior Grace Gordon (Chester Springs, Pa.) finished with a season-high eight goals.
  • Gordon, Tavana, Hooper, senior Lauren DiPietro (Stoney Creek, Ontario), senior Dani Brinckman (Glastonbury, Conn.), freshman Chiara Pucci (Munich, Germany), freshman Cara Milne-Redhead (Clitheroe, England) and senior Emily Arellano (Wadsworth, Ohio) played the full 90 minutes.

She scored a brace! Anyone know when the next home fixture is? Where they stand on the conference table? What kits they’ll wear?

God Save The Queen!

Milne-Redhead's Goal Not Enough Against Butler, 3-1

INDIANAPOLIS – Despite an early goal scored off of a free kick by freshman Cara Milne-Redhead (Clitheroe, England), the Seton Hall women's soccer team fell on the road to Butler, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon.

The Pirates (6-4, 1-1 BIG EAST) went 1-1 this weekend following a 2-1 victory over Villanova on Thursday, their first conference road win since 2011.

In the 16th minute, Butler committed a foul just outside their own 18-yard box and senior Laura Hooper (Watford, England) and Milne-Redhead stepped up to the ball. Hooper took control first and tapped it back to Milne-Redhead who launched the ball to the lower left corner of the goal and tallied her second score of the year.

Butler would equalize in 28th and go-ahead in 35th to take a 2-1 lead. The Pirates' second-best chance of the first half came with under a minute to play as Milne-Redhead found senior Lizzy Kirk (Yeardley, Pa.) in the area but Kirk's shot was too strong out to the left.

An early goal for the Bulldogs in the second half that barely crossed the line put the game out of reach for The Hall as they dropped their first conference match of the season.

Quick Kicks
  • After scoring twice in the win over Villanova on Thursday, Hooper tallied her first assist of the season and the sixth of her career on Sunday.
  • Milne-Redhead, freshman Natalie Tavana (Middletown, Conn.) junior Grace Gordon (Chester Springs, Pa.), senior Lauren DiPietro (Stoney Creek, Ontario), senior Dani Brinckman (Glastonbury, Conn.), senior Naomi Welch (Livingston, Scotland) and senior Emily Arellano (Wadsworth, Ohio) played the full 90 minutes.
  • Tavana posted two shots and a shot on goal.
  • Gordon made seven saves, one shy of her season high.
  • Kirk registered her first shot of the season in the loss and Brinckman posted her second shot of the year on a header attempt.

Up Next
The Pirates will return to Owen T. Carroll Field this week to take on Connecticut at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
