SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The 2025 Seton Hall softball team opens BIG EAST play at home when Georgetown travels to Essex County Mike Sheppard Sr. Field to take on the Pirates in a three-game weekend series. The first game will begin on Friday, March 7, at 2 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday's games will start at 12:00 p.m.

Week Five Mid-Week Recap: Pirates Claim Opening Leg of Two-Game Series Against Rutgers.
The opened their 2025 home schedule on Wednesday against Rutgers in the first game of a home-and-home series between the two North Jersey institutions. Both teams sat tied at 1-1 heading into the third inning before the Scarlet Knights broke the tie when they scored the leadoff hitter on a fielder's choice, giving them a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the frame, the Pirates offense struck back. A leadoff walk instantly lead to a Kelsey Carr home run, which Hannah Alexander made back-to-back home runs to make it a 4-2 Seton Hall lead. From that point, the Pirates never looked back, collecting the 4-2 win in seven innings.

  • Georgetown (8-5) currently sits third in the BIG EAST standings.
  • Through 13 games, the Hoyas are slashing .283/.360/.469 with 14 home runs, 77 RBI, 20 stolen bases and a +27 run differential (91-to-64).
  • At the plate, Georgetown is led by sophomore Emily Strittmatter. The third baseman has been one of the best offensive players in the BIG EAST so far this season, leading the lead in slugging percentage (.778), sitting third in OBP (.500), fourth in runs scored (17) and tied for second in home runs (4).
    • Overall, eight Hoyas have driven in 7 or more RBI this season.
  • In the circle, it has been a group effort for the Hoyas this season. Among the staff, Kayla Dunn has been the standout arm so far this season. In 28 innings pitched, the senior has logged a 4.50 ERA with 25 strikeouts and a .198 batting average against, good for third in the BIG EAST.

  • With three runs at the Party at Palmer Invitational, Taylor Hill moved into sole possession of the second-most career runs in program history with 133 runs scored.
  • Olivia Gilbert earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on March 3. The senior first baseman hit .294/.368/.657 with four runs, two home runs and 10 RBI in 5 games at the Party at Palmer Invitational.
  • Heading into the week, Gilbert is tied for third in the BIG EAST in RBI this season with 17 total RBI.
    • Carr also recorded her 100th career RBI this past weekend against Cornell.
  • Kelsey Carr and Katey Brennan entered the week tied for the conference-lead in walks with 15 each.
  • After hitting .563 at the Party at Palmer Invitational, Caroline Hobbes raised her batting average to .316.
