LAST GAME
Graduate student Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) scored a career-high 25 points, but the Pirates fell to No. 6 USC, 84-51, at the Acrisure Holiday Invitational on Wednesday.

A USC run late in the first quarter gave the Women of Troy a lead they never relinquished. The USC roster, which features five players that are at least 6-foot-2, badly out-rebounded the Pirates, 56-to-27, which included a 22-to-11 edge on the offensive glass.

Masonius was brilliant, collecting a career-high on 11-for-21 shooting, and 3-for-6 from three-point range, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer to close the third quarter. It's her fourth game with at least 20 points in Seton Hall's first six games this season.

AGAINST SAN FRANCISCO
Seton Hall and San Francisco will meet for only the third time in history on Monday. The teams have split the prior to games, with the Pirates having won the most recent meeting, a 69-59 victory at Walsh Gym on Dec. 20, 2004. It's been nearly 20 years since these programs have played.

SCOUTING SAN FRANCISCO
San Francisco is coming off a 14-16 season, which included a 10-6 mark in West Coast Conference play. Although they finished the regular season with three straight wins, their season came to an end with a 76-71 loss to Pacific in the first round of the WCC Tournament. Freja Werth was named West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Year, while Jasmine Gayles and Debora dos Santos earned All-Conference First Team honors.

This season, dos Santos was named to the Preseason All-WCC Team. She highlights a team that returns 12 players from last season's roster, including four starters. San Francisco was selected sixth in the 2024-25 WCC Preseason Coaches Poll.

San Francisco enters Monday's contest with a 2-3 record. The Dons have dropped two in a row and are coming off a 59-57 loss to Boise State on Thursday. Werth and dos Santos are two players currently averaging in double-figures for San Francisco. Although the Dons are averaging only 57.4 points per game, they're dominating teams on the boards, averaging 44.6 rebounds per contest.

NEW YORK – Seton Hall's Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) was named to the BIG EAST Women's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll on Monday.

It's the fourth consecutive week to start the year that Masonius has been honored by the conference.

Seton Hall fell to No. 6 USC at the Acrisure Holiday Invitational on Wednesday, but Masonius certainly did her best to promote an upset. The graduate student erupted for a career-high 25 points on 11-for-21 shooting, including 3-for-6 shooting from three-point range. One of her trifectas was a buzzer-beater from well-beyond the arc to end the third quarter. Masonius also had three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Connecticut's Paige Bueckers was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while Villanova's Jasmine Bascoe earned Freshman of the Week honors. Those joining Masonius on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll include: Creighton's Morgan Maly, DePaul's Jorie Allen, Georgetown's Kelsey Ransom, Marquette's Skylar Forbes.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Sophomore Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) erupted for a career-high 26 points and Shailyn Pinkney (East Hartford, Conn.) added a career-best 14 points as the Seton Hall women's basketball team outlasted San Francisco, 59-53, in Walsh Gym on Monday.

Seton Hall took advantage of nine San Francisco turnovers in the fourth quarter, including five in the final 3:30. Most notably was Catalon's steal with 15 seconds left to seal the Pirates' victory.

Catalon was brilliant both offensively and defensively, collecting a career-high 26 points on the strength of 6-for-11 shooting from three-point range. She also had five rebounds, three steals and drew six fouls.

Pinkney had a career-high 14 points to go with four rebounds.

THE STORY:
Leading 11-9, Seton Hall closed the first quarter with an 8-0 run, highlighted by a pair of made three-pointers by Catalon. The Pirates held San Francisco to just 18 percent shooting in the first 10 minutes and led 19-9 after the first 10 minutes.

A layup by Pinkney with 3:57 left before halftime put the Pirates in front, 30-21, but San Francisco scored the next six points to make it a one-possession game. Pinkney connected on a jumper with 32 seconds left to send The Hall into the break with a 32-27 advantage. The taller Dons had a rebound advantage in the first 20 minutes, but the Pirates forced nearly twice as many turnovers.

Up 34-30, The Hall went on a 6-0 burst on three-pointers by Catalon and Pinkney to give it a 40-30 lead with 7:23 left in the third quarter. Down 42-32, San Francisco went on an 8-0 run to cut its deficit to 42-40. The Dons held the Pirates without a field goal for the final 5:45 of the third, but the Pirates took a 46-42 lead into the fourth.

A three-pointer by Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) gave The Hall a 55-48 lead with 5:11 left in the game, but the Pirates didn't make another field goal for the rest of the contest. The Dons cut their deficit to 55-53 with 33 seconds left, but the Pirates were able to ice the game on the free-throw line. A pair of made free-throws by Catalon with 20 seconds left made it 57-53, and then Catalon had a huge steal with 15 seconds remaining, was fouled, and then she made two more.





THE NUMBERS:

• Seton Hall was 18-for-51 (35.3%) from the floor for the game, while San Francisco was 18-for-45 (40.0%). The Hall was 10-for-33 (30.3%) from three-point range, while the Dons were 9-for-23 (39.1%).
• Catalon had a career-high 26 points on 7-for-14 shooting, including 6-for-11 shooting from three-point range and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. She also had five rebounds, three steals and two assists.
• San Francisco out-rebounded The Hall, 37-to-25, which included a 13-to-10 edge on the offensive glass, but the Pirates had a 10-to-4 advantage in second-chance points.
• Pinkney had a career-high 14 points on 5-for-10 shooting to go with four rebounds, a steal and a block.
• Seton Hall was 13-for-16 (81.3%) from the free-throw line, while San Francisco was 8-for-12 (66.7%).
• Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) had six points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
• Seton Hall forced 23 turnovers, while the Dons forced 12. The Hall had a 23-to-15 advantage in points-off-turnovers.

THE NOTES:

• Seton Hall is now 5-2, while San Francisco drops to 2-4.
• The Hall is now 2-1 all-time against the Dons.
• Seton Hall has now forced more turnovers than its opponent in all seven games this season.
• With four assists tonight, Amari Wright (Jacksonville, Fla.) passed former Pirate Tonya Alleyne into 11th place on Seton Hall's career list with 320.
• Tonight was Wright's 116th career game played, which is tied for 12th most in Seton Hall history.
• With 26 points tonight, Catalon surpassed the 300-points mark for her career.
• The Pirates improve to 130-50 in Walsh Gym during the Bozzella era. Furthermore, the Pirates are now 68-13 against non-conference opponents at home.
• The Hall has forced at least 20 turnovers in six of seven games this year.
• Seton Hall connected on a season-high 10 three-pointers.
• The Pirates collected at least 10 steals for the sixth time in seven games this year.
