NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference hosted its inaugural Freshmen Fundamentals seminar this past weekend, and Seton Hall men’s basketball’s three freshmen participated in the event, receiving tips, advice and life skills on the transition from high school to college and the elite level of the BIG EAST Conference.
For Pirates rookies Myles Carter (Chicago, Ill.), Veer Singh (New Orleans, La.) and Dalton Soffer (San Diego, Calif.), it was an opportunity to hear from experts across multiple fields to get a head start on their four-year careers at Seton Hall while also learning about how to best prepare for life after college.
Carter, Singh and Soffer were among 38 freshmen in the BIG EAST who attended the two-day event. On day one, the student-athletes listened to presentations from DeNita Turner on etiquette and personal brand and Dan Broden on media training. The student-athletes also participated in a panel discussion with former BIG EAST stars Patrick Ewing, Jr., Randy Foye and Greg Monroe.
In the evening, the student-athletes took a tour of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in Lower Manhattan and then received a talk from former NBA head coach Jim O’Brien on what professional organizations look for in college student-athletes.
On day two, the student-athletes took a tour of Madison Square Garden and then met with BIG EAST Commissioner Val Ackerman and heard presentations from FOX Sports Coordinating Producer Steve Scheer on the BIG EAST/FOX partnership and FOX Sports analyst and former BIG EAST student-athlete Tarik Turner on life after college.
