  • The Pirates were shutout on Wednesday for just the second time this season.
  • Huerman's 90th minute game-tying penalty kick against Creighton was the second such goal this season for the Pirates. Johannes Pex (Stephansposching, Germany) scored in the same fashion against Xavier in a 2-2 draw on Sep. 17.
  • The Pirates have five game-tying/go-ahead goals in the 70th minute or later this season.
  • Saturday's draw against Creighton was the Pirates' sixth of the season, setting a new single-season program mark.

  • The win over Oregon State on Sep. 2 was the Pirates' first over a top-10 team in the United Soccer Coaches rankings since beating No. 2 Georgetown to win the BIG EAST title on Apr. 17, 2021. The win also marked the first time Seton Hall has defeated a top-10 non-conference foe since winning at No. 3 Virginia in the 2001 NCAA Tournament.

South Orange, N.J. – The Pirates locked up a berth in the BIG EAST Men's Soccer Tournament on Saturday night with a 2-1 win over Villanova at Owen T. Carroll Field. James Boote (Southampton, England) scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute as the Pirates moved into second place in the conference standings.

How it Happened
No goals were scored in the first half, but it did not come without plenty of chances for Seton Hall. The Pirates dominated possession in the first 45 minutes as they outshot the Wildcats 7-2, but the teams went into halftime scoreless.

It did not take long to change that in the second half, as JP Marin scored just 50 seconds into the second half. Marin played a ricochet off the near post off a cross from Johannes Pex (Stephansposching, Germany), and was able to bury one to give the Pirates a 1-0 advantage.

After finding themselves trailing, the Wildcats began to mount more chances on offense. In the 72nd minute, their efforts finally paid off. After a shot from Balthi Saunders off a free kick was saved by Hannes Ronnholmen (Stockholm, Sweden), Villanova's Viktor Benediktsson swooped in and scored on the rebound to tie the match at 1-1.

The Pirates would responds quickly, as they were able to find another late go-ahead goal. In the attacking third, Andrea Borg (Sliema, Malta) fed a pass to Quenzi Huerman (Vannes, France) at the top of the penalty area. Huerman found an open Boote, who dribbled to his right foot to find space and buried a shot inside the left post to put Seton Hall ahead for good.

News & Notes
  • The Pirates clinch a berth in the BIG EAST Tournament for the second time in three seasons. The last time the team qualified was in the spring of 2021, when the Pirates won their first BIG EAST title since 1991.
  • Playing in his 62nd career match, Boote's goal was the first of his career.
  • Boote's tally was the sixth game-tying/go-ahead goal in the 70th minute or later for the Pirates this season.
  • Seton Hall has now won its last eight matches, and 17 of its last 18, when scoring the first goal.
  • Huerman's assist gives him 18 points on the season, the most by a Pirate since Andres Arcila's 21 point campaign in 2017.
  • Luca Dahn has played wire-to-wire in 44 of his 47 career matches, including 13 of his 14 matches this season.
