Akron, Ohio – The Seton Hall men's soccer team suffered its second BIG EAST loss of the season on Friday night, falling 3-1 on the road at No. 5 Akron. The Pirates now sit at 5-3-1 overall on the campaign.

How it Happened
Akron had chances early and often, but Pirate goalkeeper Mats Roorda (Groningen, Netherlands) was tasked with making multiple stops to keep things scoreless early. His most impressive stop of the opening half came in the 29th minute, when the graduate played a point blank shot off his chest and over the end line.

The Zips would eventually find the back of the net, as Jason Shokalook flicked a back heel shot over the goal line to open the scoring. However, the Pirates would respond soon after. Hugo Gerbore (Moelan Sur Mer, France) fired a shot that struck the hand of Akron's Johnny Fitzgerald in the 43rd minute. James Boote (Southampton, England) stepped up and buried the penalty kick to knot things up at 1-1.

After halftime, the Pirates defended well to keep things even, including another strong save from Roorda in the 48th minute. However, Akron eventually broke through in the 66th minute as a penalty committed by Agustin Resch (Arata, Argentina) led to a penalty kick goal and a 2-1 Zips' lead. Akron would add another tally in the 85th minute to seal the victory.

News & Notes
  • Boote's goal was his fourth of the season after entering the season with just one goal in his career.
  • Boote's 11 points this season is a new career-high, besting the nine points he accumulated during the 2020 season.
  • Boote, Virgil Dall'Agnol (Grenoble, France) and Liam Guske (St. John's, Fla.) each played the full 90 minutes.
