Orlando, Fla. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team had an intense win at the doubles point that set the tone for the Pirates, who went on to take 11 out of 13 sets in singles competition to blow past Tennessee State, 6-1, Monday at the USTA National Training Center.

The Pirates grabbed the momentum when they took No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Arina Gumerova and Aina Plana Ventosa paired up at No. 1 to cruise to a 6-2 victory over Tennessee State's top two players. Then Oliwia Kempinski and Anastasia Petrova battled Jovana Nikolic and Franka Sindicic to a tiebreaker, that the Pirates pulled off in intense fashion that secured the team doubles point. The tiebreaking win was crucial as the Tigers won at No. 3 doubles in a tiebreaker.

The doubles win set things up for a successful singles run. Gumerova lost only three games en route to a two-set sweep over Naomi Von Bose. Kempinski also made fairly quick work of Warona Mdlulwa, 6-2, 6-3, and Plana Ventosa was dominant at No. 3, blanking Daniela Koleva, 6-0, 6-0.

Hiba El Khalifi was pushed to a first-set tiebreaker at No. 4, but she secured the victory and then took the match with a second-set 6-1. Arabella Moen was solid and only allowed Franka Sindicic to win two games in a 6-1, 6-1 sweep.

Kempinski is continuing to play hot as she is now 15-6 overall and 8-2 in dual matches this season. She has also been strong in doubles competition, pairing with three different partners to accumulate a 10-3 overall doubles record, 5-1 in spring dual matches.

The Pirates are right back in action Tuesday morning, when they compete against Butler in their first BIG EAST match of the season. Doubles kicks off at 11 a.m., at the USTA National Training Center.
