PREVIEW
Seton Hall will return to the friendly confines of Walsh Gymnasium this week when it hosts Marquette on Friday, Oct. 13 and DePaul on Saturday, Oct. 14.

MEDIA
Both contests this weekend will be streamed live by the Pirate Sports Network and available for FloSports subscribers. WSOU FM will also cover both events and live stats will be available.

SCOUTING MARQUETTE
Seton Hall and Marquette will meet on Friday for the 28th time in history. The Golden Eagles have dominated the series, winning 22 of the prior 27 meetings, including the last 13 matches. The Pirates' last victory in the series came in five sets in the semifinals of the 2014 BIG EAST Tournament.

Marquette has been a national power for the better part of a decade and last season was no exception. The Golden Eagles finished with an astounding 29-4 final record, which included a 17-1 mark in BIG EAST play. They were edged in five sets by Creighton in the BIG EAST Championship, but went on to collect three-set victory in the NCAA Tournament over Ball State and No. 13 Georgia Tech. Their season came to an end against No. 1 Texas in the Regional Semifinals.

In the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Golden Eagles were selected to be the favorite to win the 2023 title, earning seven first-place votes. Yadhira Anchante, Hattie Bray, Aubrey Hamilton and Carsen Murray were all named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. The Golden Eagles lone departure from last fall's rotation is the graduation of libero Carly Skrabak, while all six nominal starters return.

Marquette stumbled out of the gate with wins in only four of its first 11 matches, but that was due in large part to a strong non-conference schedule. All seven of Marquette's losses have come against nationally-ranked competition, including No. 1 Wisconsin, No. 7 Oregon and No. 9 Pittsburgh. Since, the Golden Eagles have dominated BIG EAST competition, losing just one set in six matches. Most recently, Marquette swept No. 15 Creighton on Friday.

SCOUTING DE PAUL
On Saturday, Seton Hall and DePaul will meet for the 27th time in history. The Pirates have an impressive 20-6 all-time record against the Blue Demons, but DePaul has dominated the series in recent years. The Hall won the first 14 matches in the series, but has now lost five of the last six contests. Last season, the teams split the home-and-home series with each team winning at home.

DePaul is coming off a 10-20 season in 2022, which included a 6-12 mark in BIG EAST Conference play. The Blue Demons didn't qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament and closed out the season with losses in three of its final four matches. Jill Pressly was named to the All-BIG EAST Team and Taylor Underwood netted All-Freshman Team honors.

In the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Blue Demons are predicted to finish sixth in 2023. Pressly returns and was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Overall, DePaul returns 13 letterwinners from the 2022 team and welcomes four newcomers.

DePaul enters the weekend with a 10-7 record overall and a 3-3 mark in BIG EAST play. The Blue Demons had won three straight before running into the top two BIG EAST teams last week. DePaul is coming off sweeps to Marquette on Wednesday and Creighton on Saturday. Their victories have come against Villanova, Providence and Connecticut.
