NBA players won’t cancel season

By Post Sports Desk

August 27, 2020 | 12:03pm | Updated

The NBA season will continue.

Players decided not to boycott the remainder of the playoffs on Thursday morning, ESPN.com reported. Thursday’s games will still be postponed. The goal is to restart the season on Friday, according to The Athletic. The unrest among players comes after the Jacob Blake shooting in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Players first met Wednesday night inside the NBA bubble where the push to end the season was led by the Lakers and Clippers. It came after the Bucks abruptly boycotted their playoff game against the Magic on Wednesday afternoon, leading to the postponement of the other two playoff games that night.

The first round of the playoffs is nearing a conclusion and the second round was initially scheduled to begin Thursday night with the Raptors-Celtics series.

Once the entire first-round series have concluded families and friends of players are allowed to enter the NBA bubble after going through the proper precautions..

They can boycott, they can cancel, they can walk off the job for good. I couldn't care less and that goes for the NFL, too. Nothing is going to change because of anything these grandstanding athletes do. And we all know there is too much money involved for them to call it quits permanently which really would impress people but will never happen. I wonder how many of them could make a living in a real job with real money like the rest of us have to do.

I do feel betrayed by MLB, as this was the grand American tradition. I think of that magnificent speech James Earl Jones gave in Field of Dreams. None of it is pertinent anymore. For years I lived and died with the Red Sox; now I cannot name three players on that team and I'm better off for it.

A bad look for the players. They follow the dollars. An issue they feel so important but not willing to make any sacrifice.

wow shocked. what a bold move to delay the games a few days. big timez

I thought there intentions were good, they had a chance to change the world by canceling their season and they decide to play. Makes no sense.

C’mon guys. When they boycotted the games most posters here were critical of them for grand standing. Now they say their going to play and their a bunch of hypocrites.

Maybe as a league in which 80% (+/-) are African American, the players, like most people in America, are really having a tough time dealing with an issue that they see not only affecting them but also their families and friends in the cities that many of them grew up in.

The emotions were high Wednesday, they smartly allowed some time to cool off, and they met again today and came to the conclusion it was better to play the rest of the season. Appears to me that they went through a sound and rational decision making process. Just my opinion.

For most of these guys it's all about the Benjamins, nothing else--

Yep, that's what it comes down to in the end. They used it as an excuse to try to extort the owners into conceding something. It was never about "social justice."

Pro sports is a giant cesspool. Greedy owners, greedy and entitled players. Not even worth following anymore.

Sleepy Joe Finally just said rioting is wrong.
Don Lemon from CNN said yesterday on the air
the pools were moving toward Trump and Biden
had to speak out against it.Thanks Don for
explaining to Joe that politics demanded that
he speak out since he believed it was in his interest to not criticize BLM even if their leaders
we’re marxists since they were all going to vote
for him. Finally you convinced him It was in his political interest to speak out.I don’t often agree
with you Don ,but this time you did a public
service.

what is the nba players path to change plan? interested to see the details behing how they plan to make change.

for instance, there is roughly 38.4 million eligible black voters in the US. in 2016 15m were counted to have voted in the exit polls. thats a 39% turnout.

do the players have a course of action where they can get the remaining 61% 23.5m people to vote and tangibly change their future and the way the country is run? thats a lot of votes that can win an election. and the low number isnt that far off other ethnicities... but other ethnicities arent protesting. there is a chance to take advantage.

i havent heard any of any real plan other than fake sitting out games.

Let’s be honest...entertainers and athletes have way less of an impact on what the public thinks than we are led to believe by the MSM. The lack of their self-awareness is obvious.

I generally agree with your point but I don’t know how fair it is to say that, because many want to win, be the star, etc. But even if it is just $, who can blame them?

Nope only in your head and select others here...someone yesterday had a data breakdown of i believe Lebron's twitter and what it means for influence gains...you are the one that is stuck on the concept that all professional entertainment are programmed robots, but actually they are empathetic humans first

I would say to all to watch this and maybe take one thing from it or maybe have more empathy to the other side

Twitter likes....that’s substance. Pushing a button on your smart phone takes literally zero effort.

i think its much less of an issue with them being athletes, and more so them having an ill thought out approach that comes across as lazy and has no real tangible path towards change. olympic athletes dont play for money. the nba players do, and they wont lose any because theyre not actually boycotting. they are playing all the games they missed.

the platform is there, do something for real.

It's all a stunt for publicity. Amazing how some can't see that.
