Tonight's first half was as good as I have ever played anywhere. I just felt like I could make every shot so I just kept shooting. The guys kept telling me to keep shooting. Especially since we have been in a slump recently on offense.
We really weren't playing defense well so to stay in the game I had to spark the team by hitting some shots.
In the second half Butler hedged hard to stop me from shooting so I then had to look more for my teammates.
Coach is gonna kill us the way we played defense. The worst defensive effort we gave all year. Even worse than the Creighton game. We gave up blatant wide open shots, open lanes. It was just horrible tonight. But we'll bounce back.
I can't answer why we were so bad. They're obviously great offensive players. They know how to use their bodies well. Especially Jones. He's slow but he makes you play at his speed. Plus they do a lot of stuff for Dunham and that makes him difficult to guard as well.
We got confused a few times on coverage but we adapted. Especially at the end and that got us back in the game.
No team is a bad match for us. That's an excuse. We just have to go out there and play our game. We have to get stops. We didn't tonight and we lost.
That's Big East BB. There's a lot of great players in the league. They can all make tough shots. I did in the first half and they did during the game. You just have to keep defending. Problem tonight is in the second half there were scoring in back to back possessions a lot and we got down.
I feel bad for our next opponent, because coach is going to rip us apart in practice about defending. On offense we'll probably touch the ball about 25%. The rest will be defensive drills.
We were still in the game at the end despite how we played. It means we can pump it up and get going. The deflection by Derrick was huge to get the backcourt violation, But we didn't do enough to pull it out. We'll use this as a learning experience. Next time it happens we'll be ready.
Butler really focused on me in the second half. In the first half I got a few of my shots off the zone. We kept swinging the ball and I was getting my shots. In the second half Jones used his body against me and their big man hedged hard forcing me to back away. Because of that I had to concentrate on feeding my teammates as much as possible.
In the first half I spent a lot of energy, especially shooting from deep. After the half my legs were dead. At the start of the second half I was OK and then I got a breather. But as the game went on I was getting worn down.
