tl;dr: No one who is interested in Seton Hall basketball is following it earnestly through NJ.com.
To be sure, it's pettiness by Seton Hall, but it really has no impact. The media landscape has changed so much that a Politi and the smoking wreckage of what used to be the Star-Ledger are, at least in this context, almost 100 percent irrelevant. And I say this as a staunch legacy media supporter. It's just the way it is.
Given the Star-Ledger's decision long ago to essentially exclude Seton Hall from coverage, at least of the in-person variety, I'm sure Seton Hall has wanted to snub them like this forever. But whereas there was a time when it would've been cutting off their nose to spite their fact, those days are gone. And especially in a year when you know the guy in question is going to have absolutely nothing positive to say about the program, why even waste a credential on him?
Year ago, I would've found this outrageous and been embarrassed of my alma mater. Now? What is lost by doing this? Visibility? No. Aside from Jerry Carino, who to my knowledge is the one legacy media scribe who covers us in earnest (and does so very well), the people like Jaden Daly are the ones who deserve these credentials, not some self-satisfied fool like Politi who knows nothing about this but will parachute in and drop his silly opinion afterward. Who needs it?
EDIT: See the post above mine by
@hbkmyr. It was my oversight to exclude Zagoria, who I think is a freelancer for NJ.com, not a staffer like the uninformed columnist in question.
