My interview with Ish.
I'll paraphrase.
The reason I am wearing the brace is to protect my shoulder. It's OK.
During the game I try not to think about it. When I start to think about it I start to mess up on the court. I can't be cautious because then I hurt the team and don't play defense as well as I could. I have to play carefree.
I originally hurt the shoulder in my senior year at East Side and missed time then too. Probably about 3-4 games.
My knee is now fine. No problems anymore. The pain has been gone for a while now.
I could have played against Stanford if needed. But coach's decision was the right decision. Stanford is very physical, especially inside so maybe it was best for me to miss one more game.
Yeah, it's been a long time since I got 5 assists in a game. I'll have to look it up. Guess I was watching a few Magic Johnson highlights.
I'm not a scorer. I'll do what coach wants me to do. Whatever. Defense, rebounds, helping my teammates on D, deflections, finding the open guy. Whatever. If you notice I try and get Angel the ball as much as possible because I know he'll finish. I also try and kick it out to Myles for open threes. But if the defense backs off then I'll take my opportunities.
(Carino question)
It's a lot of fun passing to Myles knowing I just have to run back on defense. He's a terrific shooter and I know when he gets it he'll make it. Not sure if you guys noticed but one time he was wide open and I passed it to him because I wanted the assist. He didn't shoot and I got mad at him and said why didn't you shoot the ball?
Myles is very mature. He doesn't let success go to his head. He knows he still has a lot to learn but so far he's really doing well.
Yeah I knew it was going to happen. You just had to watch how well he was shooting in practice to see it coming. I actually watched him in high school too. You could see how good he was even then.
Back to my questions.
Yes, I loved playing in the high post against the zone, definitely. Especially the way Colombia plays it. They come off the corners and leave strong sides so when they converge I can always kick it out.
No, we really didn't know they would zone us. We didn't do anything special to prepare. We just ran our zone offense. It was on the fly. We knew or thought we knew that they would play man but their principles for both were similar so we didn't have a problem with it.
