Got this directly from SJU. It will save me time on posting.
Early next week I'll have Willard, Powell, Carrington, Nzei and of course Angel.
St. John’s Head Coach Chris Mullin…
On coming up short in recent road games:
“They’re all different. I wouldn’t put three games together. Today, I thought the physicality [was the difference]. Statistically, they killed us on the boards. They had much more of an aggressive tone and dominated the first half. We did a little better in the second half, but the game was out of reach by then.”
On Seton Hall junior forward Angel Delgado:
“He looked like Moses Malone today. … He carves out space and keeps it. He’s got good hands and takes his time. Anytime you get 20 points and 20 rebounds, you are doing a lot of good stuff. Very solid.”
On struggling to rebound:
“Some of that will change over time; some of our guys aren’t strong yet. It’s going to take a summer.”
On the second half improvement:
“They played better in the second half. I told them at halftime that they were soft and selfish. In the second half, I thought they did a better job.”
On coming out with a lack of effort:
“To me it’s the imprint you put on the game. [Seton Hall] came out more physical and aggressive and that set the tone for the game.”
On inconsistent play:
“Part of it is experience. Young players and inexperienced players play well sometimes, and the really good ones that go to the next level do it every day. And it’s not just the games. The other thing is learning how to practice and [analyzing] scouting reports. All of these things are new to these guys.”
Freshman Guard Marcus LoVett...
On the game:
“We knew coming into this game that we were playing Seton Hall and they have big bodies and rebound well, so we had to match their intensity. We didn’t do that starting in the first half so that got to us.”
On not playing to the team’s potential:
“We just didn’t play to our potential. It’s nothing really else to say about that. It’s something we have to fix as a team and it’s fixable, but we just didn’t do that this game.”
On what the team would have to do to stop Angel Delgado:
“I believe we’d have to play much more aggressive with him and really keep a body on him at all times for him to not get those rebounds and do what he does best.”
On the rebounding:
“It hurts us a lot, especially when we’re not at the right place at the right time. Teams take advantage of that and they grab rebounds. I believe if we were at the right places at the right time, we could battle with those teams on the stat line. That’s something we have to fix and that’s fixable.”
On the talent of the team:
“I believe in our team. We have the pieces that we need to succeed. We just have to get it done out there.”
