I didn’t want to post this on the free board but who was/is advising Powell? Following him on social media yesterday was painfully heartbreaking. There was an EXTREME disconnect between his expectations and reality. This was not a case of willing something into fruition. He genuinely thought he was being drafted. Let me explain for those that don’t follow him...
He hired a professional photographer to do a photo shoot for him and his mom. Both he and his mom were decked out in custom high end designer clothing (i.e. $1,500 Louboutin loafers, diamond Rolex cost more than a car, mink coat, custom tux and dress, etc.). He hosted a draft party at restaurant decked to the nines in decorations and invited all his friends and family. He spent thousands upon thousands of dollars yesterday on the event.
In every interview he gave countless quotes: “when I get drafted”, “wherever I get drafted”, “whether I’m drafted late or early” etc.
This is bizarre behavior for someone who was universally expected to go undrafted. He was not listed on 99% of mock drafts. Industry experts listed him as a fringe pick at best.
Was he just surrounding himself with people that were selling him dreams? Was he just listening to what he wanted to hear and disregarding the honest feedback?
I feel absolutely awful for him. All my friends and I who follow him were perplexed as to how he could have such a weak grasp on reality.
