QUEENS, N.Y. (Feb. 19, 2016) – St. John’s looks to carry momentum from its recent win over DePaul into a Sunday showdown with local BIG EAST rival Seton Hall at Madison Square Garden. Tim Brando and Tarik Turner will call the action for the national telecast on FS1 at noon.

St. John’s IMG Radio Network broadcast with John Minko and Vin Parise can be heard on 570 AM WMCA, SiriusXM channel 84 and through TuneIn.

The Red Storm picked up its fifth win at Carnesecca Arena this season rolling past the Blue Demons, 80-65, on Wednesday. It was an all hands on deck effort with four St. John’s freshmen helping to lead the charge. Federico Mussini (Reggio Emilia, Italy) scored all 17 points in the second half and Kassoum Yakwe (Bamako, Mali) went for his first career double-double (11 points, 11 rebounds). Malik Ellison (Voorhees, N.J.) added 11 points to go with four assists, while Yankuba Sima (Girona, Spain) grabbed nine rebounds and blocked three shots.

Returning to Madison Square Garden for the first time in three weeks, St. John’s will try to complete the sweep of its two-game homestand before hitting the road for the next two. The Red Storm already has a pair of wins at MSG with graduate transfer Durand Johnson (Baltimore, Md.) leading the way with 17.0 points per game in victories over Syracuse and St. Francis Brooklyn. The 6-foot-6 guard is coming off an 18-point performance and has led the team in scoring eight times this year.

St. John’s (8-19, 1-13) has won six of its last seven home games in its series with Seton Hall (18-7, 8-5), including the last meeting at The Garden on Jan. 27, 2013. In order to get past the upstart Pirates, winners in five of their last six games, the Red Storm will have to find a way to slow down a cast of sophomore starters who have the team positioned third in the BIG EAST. Isaiah Whitehead leads The Hall with 16.8 points per game and 4.9 assists, while big man Angel Delgado has averaged a double-double (10.4 ppg, 10.0 rpg).

Sunday’s contest marks the 95th meeting between the charter members of the BIG EAST conference. The Red Storm will try to avenge its setback in their first contest on Jan. 27 in Newark.
