out of the 4 majors, a jets win would have meant the giants would have had the longest playoff drought despite being the last nyc team to win its league's title

tough to go to buffalo and lose to rex esp with pitt playing cleveland

giants will have a top 12 pick

If somehow, some way Seton Hall can have a great season, we could draw a lot of attention from a NY-NJ sports media starving for a relevant story.

Starving for a relevant story? You had the Yankees in the playoffs, the Islanders in the playoffs, the Rangers in the Stanley cup finals and conference finals for 3 straight years and wait the Mets in the World Series. College basketball even if it was St Johns having a great season would not be a relevant story in today's NY sports world.

The hot stove for baseball, NHL playoffs run and the Giants coaching situation will get more headlines than college basketball.

I feel my Pirate fans who are also Jets fans. That was a rough one today.

The Giants coaching situation has enough drama and intrigue to keep the NY media well fed for the next few weeks.

It is no longer baseball season. Hockey playoffs do not start until long after college basketball season ends. NFL football always gets its share of headlines. But there is a good opportunity for a NY-NJ program to get some decent press now that local football and college football is over.

In this day and age of new media, it's not about allowing for an opening to emerge because the media resources are finite and/or preoccupied, it's more about taking space for yourself.

If we win we'll be relevant regardless of what else is going on.

You could have SJU and SHU with their 1984 and 1989 seasons this year and Kristos Porzingis would get more headlines than both. Regular season college basketball is not going to get the headlines in today's NY Sports world. A deep NCAA run by either would not even be much of a headline story for long.

Piratz, what did you think of Jay Glazer's report about Coughlin likely to resign on Monday? Coughlin denied it in his press conference after the game.

TomD, I honestly don't think it's decided yet. There's no way the Giants would allow today to pass without acknowledging Coughlin's tenure, whether he'd like it or not. The man coached them for 12 years and won 2 Super Bowls. I was there today and literally nothing. Even after the game. Nothing. Why not say something after the game at least? Season's over. Nothing said to his team, no sign of John Mara, nothing.

Small pockets of fans gave him a good ovation as he walked off the field, but that was it.

I think he and is family are prepared for his to be the end and they acted like it today. Starting to remind me a bit of the ending between Joe Torre and the Yankees. I do think TC would like to finish out the final year of his contract and pass the baton to McAdoo. I think the team wants that as well. I think they also need to be realistic that the changes cannot just to be in coaching.

The Giants played hard today and put up 30 points and 500 yards of offense - even overcome an 11-point deficit - and still lost. Same old, same old defense. This is now the second year in a row they're the worst in the league and this time the worst ever. Whomever the coach is, it begins there.

Somebody call TomK off the ledge!!

It was a tough and disappointing loss, but overall a good season for the Jets. Going from 4 wins last year to 10 this year. A 10-6 record gets you into the playoffs 80% of the time. Right now i'd sign up for that record again next year.

Having said that, now I think I'll jump !!!

Bowles is a good coach. They had a good year and seem to be going in the right direction.

nfl is a league with the most parity and fairness for every team every season to have a playoff run, jets 10-6 based on the schedule they faced, marshall and decker and good, ivory, powell good running tandem fitz is a top 16 qb, you prob need top 12 for the playoffs

i read nothing out of john or steve today and john didn't even come down to locker room after game; i don't think you let a coach go into the last year of his deal to retire and then hope to hire within, tom didn't pick ben as new oc that was upper management

i think it would be best for giants to get new gm, head coach and college scouting staff, this free agency class plus draft is a premium for the roster to be infused and upgraded fast, giants also face a 3rd place schedule next season which is a good chance for them to go 10-6 or better with a better more talented roster

Until they actually field a decent defense, it doesn't matter who they hire. That starts with better players. You cannot have the worst defense in the league every year and wonder why you're 6-10. It evens out over the course of a season as you cannot rely on turnovers forever and teams start exposing your weak links, particularly over the middle because the safeties and linebackers were awful players.

32nd in yards
32nd in yards/game
30th in yards/play
30th in points/game
32nd in 3rd Down %
30th in sacks
30th in sack %
