First off, the Booster Club is a great organization full of super people with a common love of SHU hoops.
But, as a thread on the free board proves, it’s understandable the school and staff (especially of a program now under NCAA probation) would stay away from publicly associating with a group that does something like promote a pool where money is exchanging hands based on SHU basketball results.
Is it all harmless? Of course. But think using NCAA logic instead of common sense logic, because that’s how the school has to view it. Likewise, it’s understandable that the school - at least at things like the post-game dinner a couple of weeks ago - would not want to have any outward association with a group that it has no control over, especially when it officially sponsors Pirate Blue. Honestly, when you have to answer to the NCAA and it’s rule book, there’s no reason the school should want anything to do with the Booster Club. Even the term “Booster Club” has negative connotations as far as the NCAA is concerned.
It’s unfortunate, but it seems totally understandable the school and staff acts as it does. Given the way the NCAA operates, it’s a smart thing to do.
