Hard to put Shaka ahead over Cooley. Prov beat them head to head and have better record + undefeated in conference. McDermott way too high. They were preseason top 5 and have lost 6 games before Xmas.

Marquette was picked 9th in the preseason poll and Shaka has them rolling with a top 10 offense. Losing a double OT road game to PC doesn't mean anything. Every team loses on the road in conference play. PC was picked 5th and looks to be right around that level. The Friars are a good team, but they only have one quality win to date - the aforementioned double OT home win against Marquette.

Marquette smoked Baylor by 26, nearly knocked off Purdue in West Lafayette and beat Creighton handily. No question who has the better resume at this point, it's Marquette.

Prov has better record than Marq.
Prov has better conf record than Marq.
Prov beat Marq.
Marq almost beat Purdue.
Marq beat a bad Creighton team w/out Kalk

LOL you’re delusional

Marquette beat Baylor. For me, that pushes them ahead of PC. But we’ll see what happens when they match up.

Marquette beat Baylor by 26. Prov has beaten nobody outside of a squeaker at home vs. MU.

Again, Shaka Smart and MU were picked 9th. They are having a great season to date, far exceeding expectations. Ed Cooley and PC were picked 5th. They are having a good season, meeting expectations to date. Shaka has done a much better job than Cooley to date. Ed has done a good job, Shaka has done a great job.

Citing conference records on Dec. 30 after 3 games and overall records after a slate of cupcakes? Really? I guess I shouldn't be surprised, you're the same guy who said the game at Creighton won't be difficult for Seton Hall. LOL! 🤡

Every single one of the parameters you listed doesn’t hold water except for the head to head matchup, which was played at Providence.

Dan listed the Kenpom rankings. If you look at NET, MU is #24 and PC is #65.

Also—
SOS: 88 vs 163 in favor of MU
OOC SOS: 114 vs 288 in favor of MU

There is a lot of season left but Marquette also passes the eye test. They’re better than Providence.

Providence also shot 30 (!) more free throws in that game than Marquette did

I believe the announcers during our game with Marquette said they don't get to the line very much. In our game we shot 22 free throws compared to 11.

For the season we are 358 attempts, PC is at 339 and Marquette is at 247 all in 14 games.

I’m not arguing that Marq doesn’t have a better non conf schedule or is even better than prov, but right now on Dec 30th Cooley has to be ahead of Smart. It probably won’t last but to date he has earned it!

It actually does hold weight because we are talking about to date!!! I agree with you guys that Marq is better than Prov, but to date that has not happened.

We'll see what happens today at the Rock, but there seems very little space among the bottom four.

I'd put Smart just ahead of him for now too because MU's overall performance is better than PC's and they were picked much lower. But Cooley has done a real good job with those new players. You can see it taking form, the team developing. Hopkins and Croswell are taking off. They're going to get better and better as a team. But their non-conference schedule was such a joke (SHU's non-conf resume is better) they need to make hay in conference.

Smart has really developed those players. They've stepped in seamlessly after losing Lewis and Morsell. Ighodoro is one of the most underrated players in the BE.

I think Providence finishes ahead of Marquette in the final standings.
