Is it better for Xavier to beat Nova or lose to them tonight?

Xavier win so they come in nice and relaxed to the Rock. If they lose they will be out for blood at the Rock.

I guess there is the possibility of Xavier coming out flat against us if they beat nova but I think the closer we are to second, the better off we are. I'm rooting for Nova.

I'm torn. I would love to see Nova get the #1 overall seed, but I would also like to see 2 BE teams get a 1 seed.
I'm just hoping for a good game.

I am in this space. I also assume that Xavier is hungry win or lose so I place no fortune telling value on the result.

Guys, the question is what's best for the Hall not what's best for the league or rooting interests.

Xavier to lose. You would benefit most from having the number 1 team in the country coming from your Conference and X , even though it would not win, wouldn't suffer much from losing to the # 1 team in the country. , especially in a close game which I expect it to be.

Xavier winning. Don't want to face them coming off a loss as mentioned above and there should be added motivation playing a team who just beat the #1 team in the country.

I argue what's best for the BE is best for the Hall. I don't believe that tonight's result has any impact on the game this weekend.

Xavier is a top 5 team win or lose, will be fighting for #2 in the BE win or lose, and we lost on their floor and want revenge regardless of the outcome.

Hoping for a 1-pt game in either direction.

I might disagree.

I think that Xavier losing a real heartbreaker at the buzzer or in the end game would make it very difficult for them to get up for a Sunday noon game on the road.

With a close loss to Nova that virtually guarantees Xavier the 2 seed in the Big East and probably a 2-3 seed in the Dance pending the tournament at MSG.

That might take some wind out of their sails vs SHU.

Conversely a win will keep them on track for a 1 seed in the Dance giving them more incentive against the Hall this weekend.

If we win out (dare to dream) and Xavier loses to us and Nova, who is the BET 2-seed?

I think the tie-breaker would go to Xavier based on better over-all record. But I don't know what the tie-breaker criteria is in the Big East these days. Perhaps it is on the Big East web site.

I am hoping that Xavier loses in an exhausting, physically and emotionally draining way. I want them to be spent when they come to Newark and to also underestimate the Hall. Meanwhile, I am hoping the Pirates have a convincing win over Providence--that we cruise to victory over the friars. Then, hungry for second place and playing a dejected Xavier, I think we would be in a great position.

If Xavier manages to beat Villanova, I think their winning ways would carry over to Sunday.

A Xavier win. Beating a Xavier team that just beat the #1 team in the country would benefit Seton Hall more. In my opinion seeding in the NCAA Tournament is more important than seeding in the BET.

After we got dominated in the first game, you think we have any shot at X if they prove they are good enough to beat the #1 team in the nation? I dont. But i really dont think we have a shot either way.

Tonight's game will have no bearing on our game with Xavier on Sunday. Win or lose Xavier will be ready to play on Sunday.

With that said, I am hoping for a Xavier loss and an SHU win vs. Providence so that we can then beat Xavier on Sunday moving only a half game out of 2nd place and locking up an NCAA bid.

It's not going to effect our game unless its a double overtime thriller. I hope Nova wins in double overtime keeping the #1 seed and tiring the heck out of Xavier.

But Mack is gonna do all he can to get them ready for us no matter what happens in the Nova game.

Xavier ends its season with Creighton at home. If what you describe happens plus Xavier beats Creighton, both teams would finish at 13-5. Then you get into tiebreakers since the season series would be split 1-1. Going to depend on how the rest of the standings shake out (compare records vs. highest place team until you find an advantage). Both would be 0-2 against Villanova in that scenario so it depends on who finishes 4th or maybe 5th.

If Xavier loses out and Seton Hall wins out, Seton Hall is the #2 seed.

Perhaps but the question was what's the better outcome not what's the most likely. Nevertheless it is still possible since it's at home. We played Nova tougher at home than we did on the road.

We didn't get dominated. That was an intensely contested game until the final 7 minutes or so, if I remember correctly. We trailed Xavier for most, if not all of the game, but it was still a game until the latter part of the game when the stuffing came out of the pillow.

As a follow up, Xavier clinches at least the #2 seed with a win tonight. That would make the Musketeers 13-5 at the very worst and the win over Villanova would break a potential tie with Seton Hall if the Pirates were to get to 13-5 as well.

I agree Violet. I was only thinking in terms of our chances to beat XU. But if they beat Nova and then we beat them, that would be excellent for us, better than if we beat them after Nova beat them.

We can't really lose on this deal If Xavier wins the rpi will go a tad higher and if we beat them
on Sunday it will look even better. If Nova wins they stay the #1 team in the nation and that's excellent for the conference.

The key is for Seton Hall to beat Xavier.

You certainly don't have the mind set of a former athlete.

If you are correct, then X is not as good a team as many think. Good teams rebound quickly from a defeat and want to prove they're better than their last loss. You never want to face a good team after a loss, close or otherwise, unless its a horseshoe competition where close matters. Better hope X wins vs The Nova.

Hope X wins. Maybe they will be flat on Sunday, and we can knock them off.
Just like X; don't like Villanova.
Looking forward to going to Sunday's game with my nephew: Xavier '14. Took him last year, too, and hope the results are the same.

3OT beat down with Nova by 1 in the end. Farr goes down for 1 game and they can barely breath when they get to the Rock!

Have to root for Xavier. A win vs. Villanova and loss vs SHU would still keep them in that 5-7 range. Back to Back losses might drop them out of top 10 which wouldn't be good for us or the league.

I don't see SH benefitting from either X winning or losing. If they win you know the coaches will emphasis that they can't let down in any of their remaining games and they will point out how close SH played Nova at home. If they lose the emphasis will be on closing out the season beating each team remaining and how important each win is to their seeding.

Doesn't matter for Seton Hall. I don't think it really matters for the league either.

Quadruple overtime Villanova win by one.

Can you imagine a home win putting us in a near tie for 2nd (12-5 vs 11-5) after Xavier back to back losses and our win against Providence on Thursday?

It can happen and talk about momentum going into the Butler game. Wow!

My opinion, this game doesn't matter one bit for us. If X loses, they're coming off a loss looking to rebound and get back on track. If X wins, they're like the 1980 Olympic Hockey team, can't beat USSR, then lose to Finland. X will be out finish the job and wrap up a #1 seed the next 2 weeks. X has a talented team and veteran leadership to go along with it, as well as a coach who gets it. Tonight isn't their Final 4. Tonight's an important game, a test to see where they are, but also a chance to see where they need to improve. I expect Mack to have his teams emotions under control regardless of the result. They might celebrate the win for 24 hours, but be back to business tomorrow. Also a loss, he will have their attention, and it will be back to business tomorrow. Either way I expect it to be back to business for X tomorrow.

I hope X loses, then lose to us, and finally lose to Creighton which they lost to already. We would get the second seed if we win out and a bye in the big east tournament.
