Once again the Republicans who tout less restrictive government are a bunch of hypocrites.

The just-released GOP platform contains a plank calling for a ban on online poker. Here's the text, from page 32 in the section entitled Making the Internet Family-Friendly (view here):
"Millions of Americans suffer from problem or pathological gambling that can destroy families. We support the prohibition of gambling over the Internet and call for reversal of the Justice Department's decision distorting the formerly accepted meaning of the Wire Act that could open the door to Internet betting."

Well said, just stupid. Are they really for smaller government and more freedom or is it just hypocritical B/S?

And why we are at it, tell the Democraps to stay out of my wallet too. Was at a taping of The Tonight Show this past Monday night when Dennis Miller was a guest. He had a great line that I will now use:

I want to help the helpless but I couldn't give a rat's ass about the clueless!!!

So do you stop helping the clueless knowing that some of the helpless will no longer get the help they need?

I am all in favor of going after fraud and abuse, but I also understand that we will never be able to get help to only those that need it. It is a necessary evil to help those in need.

My definition of clueless was Dennis Miller attempting to be a sportscaster on Monday night Football!

I think your argument is a straw man argument. There are far too many programs that don't help the needy, just make them more of a ward of the state and many programs that are so poorly constructed that they invite the clueless to remain part of the moocher class.

That is not a straw man argument, and I am not saying the programs cannot be fixed.
As long as there is a system in place to help people in need, there will be people who take advantage and "game" that system.

If you want to help the helpless, you are going to help the clueless.
If your goal is to stop helping the clueless, some of the helpless will suffer for it.

Defeatest attitude...you set a bar that low, you get what you deserve. We should have no tolerance for the clueless.

Realistic attitude. Is it defeatist to acknowledge that someone has to finish last in a race?

Show me anything ever that was 100% perfect. My point is that you have to acknowledge the fact that some people will find a way around the rules no matter what.

If you have a program that is meant to ONLY help people in need, others will slip through the cracks.
I have seen soup kitchens where people show up in nice clothes and nice cars that come for the free food because the policy says not to turn them away or judge them.

Expect 100% perfection? NO

Accept mediocrity as you're suggesting? Absolutely NOT.

No where in my posts have I said mediocrity is acceptable. We should be going after fraud and abuse in every federal program we have... but we will never be perfect.

What I am saying is that if you want to cut off the clueless, you will have to hurt some of the helpless.
For me, I would rather provide for the helpless fully understanding that some people will abuse the system than cutting off the people who abuse it fully understanding that I am going to hurt the people who need it.

but that's just me.

When I see a candidate who really wants to stop fraud and abuse, he or she will have my vote.

One of my criticisms of Democrats has been their unwillingness to go after abuse...although the Medicare task force created as a part of the affordable care act has been relatively successful thus far. ;)
