Looking at the remaining 9 games -- thoughts

Does 5 – 4 get it down 19 – 12 / 12 – 8

W Georgetown home
L Villanova Away
W Xavier Home
L St Johns Away
W Butler Home
L Creighton Away
L UConn Away
W Villanova Home
W DePaul Home

5-4 should be enough for the right side of the bubble depending on what the rest of the bubble looks like.
I'd feel a lot better at 6-3 though. I think @SJU is the most likely swap from L to W

As long as the losses don't come to Georgetown or DePaul, yes.

Realistically, the way the bubble tends to soften over the last few weeks, 4-5 plus 1 in the BET might even do it. Wouldn't want to chance it though.

It's the bare minimum. Winning at least one of the road games, even at the cost of a home loss to someone not named Georgetown or DePaul, would actually be more helpful.

It's also important to avoid a finish of sixth or worse. We do not want another Wednesday night meeting at MSG with DePaul that could potentially torpedo the season. A 4/5 game loss is probably better than a win over 11 and a loss to 3 for a number of reasons.

It's a far cry when so many of us were trying to find 7-8 wins in the conference back in late Dec.

Before the UConn game I would have been satisfied with 8-9 Ws as that would have been the max expected as far as I was concerned.

What Holloway, the staff and the players have done since the Rutgers defeat is just extraordinary.

IMO we are at a crossroads with the program. Sha is again becoming the media darling he was at St Peter's and now if we can just give him the financial means to build the program by donating to NIL while he's a hot commodity, as well as knowing that next season will be the last before the Practice Facility will be completed (probably late summer 2025) we can again be a strong force in the Big East and the national scene.

We have been doing well to excellent in conference with our last losing season being 2015. But we should aim higher.

Please do what you can to help Sha....

Dan- Do you know how large corporate donations are progressing for NIL?

Dan, would love to see the look in our eyes if someone told us at njit that afternoon that we would make the tourney. This is a great job by all and total vindication for our Shaheen.

Mike McBride is playing that info very close to the vest.

Because of my surgery I have not seen him in person for nearly a month and it's far better to talk to him in person than it is via the phone or email.

At season's end I am going to pursue this info hard and post what he allows.

5-4 to get to 19-12 (12-8) with a NET somewhere in the low 60s is very bubbly to me.

Going 5-4 with 2 home wins vs DePaul and Georgetown potentially might not move us in a positive direction enough.

To put things in perspective, just recently, Providence beat Georgetown at home (by 8) and dropped 4 spots in the NET. They were also able to move up two spots with their competitive loss at UConn. But don’t do what Xavier did and get run out of the building dropping them 12 spots after that loss.

Even Creighton who beat DePaul at home by 23 this week dropped from 12 to 15 in the NET because DePaul is such a drag on the Metrics being ranked (312).

Also you have to remember that the landscape of your resume continues to change.
  • USC (NET 106) continues to be below .500 and is now our second quad 3 loss.
  • And Missouri is nowhere close to a quad 2 game anymore at a NET 136.
  • The positive news is @ Providence (54) and @ Butler (56) barring major collapses should remain quad 1 games.
And what we aren’t factoring is, the current resume which is predicted to be in the final 8 at large teams, doesn’t include other teams that could jump us by pulling off big wins to bolster their resume.

Florida @ Kentucky
South Carolina @ Tennessee
Texas @ Oklahoma

These are a couple examples of big road resume building wins (top tier Quad 1) that recently took place that we don’t have on ours.

And I forgot to mention big stealers if St. Mary’s, FAU, Dayton, or Duke or UNC don’t win their conference tournaments.

Highly advised to go 6-3 down the stretch here.

This whole thing is very fluid. Teams can jump us, we can jump teams ahead of us, teams ahead of us can fall behind us. Most of the Power 6 teams are constantly playing difficult games. Way too early on February 2 to make any definitive statements. JUST WIN!

Would selection committee take in consideration Richmond injury against Providence and Rutgers loss as rivalry game. The USC and Rutgers losses are starting to look really bad

Totally agree. Most think 12 Big East wins gets us in, but our last 6 wins would have been against Depaul 2x, Gtown, Butler, Xavier and Nova. I think we need another quality win. We will need to get one of these road games.....@Nova, @St Johns, @ Marquette or @UCONN. I actually think we will win one of those road games. My concern is we spit-the-bit on one of the home games.

I you swap Butler / Nova / or Xavier at home with a win @ Creighton or UConn I could really now defend 12-8 much stronger.

But if they pick off one. It’s most likely St.Johns or Nova and I’m not sure how much cache one of those win really holds other than it being a Quad 1 on paper.

I am betting against us getting the @Marquette game.......

It's hard to believe it's possible we played the last place team in four of six power conferences.

USC is 8-13 (2-8) and has lost six straight to fall to the Pac-12 basement.

Missouri is 8-13 (0-8) and has lost eight straight and sits last in the SEC

Rutgers is 10-10 (2-7) and is 1/2 game ahead of Michigan in the race to the bottom of the Big 10.

All we're missing is Louisville and Oklahoma State and we could have run the table.
