Last week I noted that I reached out to a sports reporter that is a friend of mind. He has no ties to SHU and casually follows the program.
He read the two part interview and here's the email he sent me in response...............
Seems like a good overview-style interview with Lyons commenting on a lot of subjects. He's about as candid as he's going to get in an interview. If you know the landscape you can read between the lines on a few subjects:
Seton Hall is not thrilled about the cost of attendance stipends (a sentiment undoubtedly shared by much of the Big East) but has to keep up with the Joneses . . .
Fox really bungled the conference schedule the first year and did a considerably better job in year two . . .
The academic stuff is noteworthy and Pat deservedly shines a light on it.
Pat acknowledges the obvious about the way the basketball season went and seems to accept the outside scrutiny there. The most interesting line to me is how Lyons says "I don’t want to say we’re young but we have some truly talented players.” That seems to project that he has high expectations for the coming season and doesn't see youth as an excuse. Interesting because you know you're going to hear the "but we're young" line repeated by Willard about 2 million times.
I found the last paragraph interesting since the reporter doesn't follow the Hall yet still made comment about a flaw with our coach.
