Have had a chance to catch some spurts of Rhoden in Summer League. From what I’ve seen he looks decent and has been getting a lot of PT. Trying to be the prototypical 3 and D NBA player. Unfortunately I don’t think he’s good enough offensively/defensively to seriously stick in the league, but he’s represented himself well by most accounts.

It was mentioned in another thread on Mamu. At this level, if you’re not a star, you need to hit the open shot when you have a look and play defense (if you are not the star). Rhoden’s defense has been very good thus far and he’s been very active getting opportunity baskets off offensive rebounds. Needs to get his shot to fall though.

watched last night .thought he played well . it has to be tough on him being an afterthought on offense.
His quick hands caused a turnover late and he has definitely improved his athleticism..
Still doesn’t have a high defensive IQ but has improved.

How does he compare to a young Adrian Griffin at this stage of their careers?

ESPN had some highlights of Rhoden's team from last night. He missed a shot down low, got the rebound and had his second shot blocked. They called him Ro-Dan.

Won't be the last time a Dan got his shock blocked. LOL

BTW, the original Rodan

He has an NBA frame. Very stout for a rookie but he needs to hit at least corner 3's at a 40% clip to get a serious look. I could see him playing overseas for 2-3 years and getting a serious look.

When mentally locked in he can play very good defense, rebounds very well, 6'11 wingspan....really just needs to be automatic from distance and then it'll be tough not to get a look. His play style fits well with teams like Memphis, Miami etc. Blue collar teams.

Gotta hand it to Jared. Had a miserable first half then comes back with 16 points in the second half and played solid D. Sometimes he found himself one on one with Holmgren. Holmgren blocked him a couple times at the end but Jared walled him up late in the 4th during the Kings comeback and stopped him from point blank range. He ‘s getting a lot of minutes for a reason.

As noted above, he is an after thought on offense as everything goes thru Murray. Then they have a black hole center and a point guard from overseas who can’t shoot but fires away anyway. And yet he’s had 10, 13, and 16 the last three games.

Regarding his shooting, he is 4/10 the last two games, 2/5 in both. That’s solid. He also hit two pull-ups in each of the last two games. Is he an NBA player right now, no. But makes himself noticeable as evidenced by the announcers recognizing him during the broadcasts. G league for sure then who knows.

His line last night: 28 minutes 16 points (2nd on team) on 5/13, 2/5, 4/4, 8 rebounds (5 offensive) +11. By comparison, #2 draft pick Chet Holmgren‘s line: 28 minutes, 8 points, 3/8, 1/2, 1/2, 3 rebounds, -11. He did have 5 assists.

It’s amazing to me how Rhoden can average double figures over four games in the summer league despite only 5 points yesterday. He never touches the ball. He’s stashed in the corner and not part of the ball action.

Obviously Murray is going to get his shots. But here other guys are chucking 3s and it’s no conscious. Would love to see what he could do in the action.

Last night he played 24 minutes and got 3 shots, that’s right 3 (almost an impossibility in NBA Simmer League)— a dunk, a made 3, and a missed 16’ J. But he’s out there for a reason. He is was +18 and when he was out of the game at the end of the 3rd, start of the 4th qtr Phoenix went on a 16-1 run.

Well, the corner 3 is starting to fall, 5/11 in the last 3 games. One more game to go, let’s see what happens.

Didn’t see the game but with Keegan sitting this one out, along with black hole Queta and bombs away Ellis, Jared had some room to operate. He got 13 shots up made 6 and importantly was 2/4 from 3. So, last four games 7/15, over all five games he went 8/22. That’s .365%. Solid. Short sample size, but still he shot better the more games he played. We’ll see what’s next for Jared but he sure has taken advantage of every opportunity that has been presented to him.

Interesting stats on Jared I just read. Over 5 games

Led all players in the summer league in +/- going +85 in 126 minutes (Keegan Murray was 2nd at + 56 in 127 minutes).

Averaged 25 minutes /game.

11.8 pts

50% FGs

38.9% 3P%

5.4 rebounds

1.6 assts

1.4 steals

Not bad for a guy who had absolutely nothing run for him on offense. These stats are from the Kings. The 3 point shooting was better than what I posted above.

Jared will always be a JYD type of player. Just not sure he’s talented enough to be a NBA JYD type of player.

Really nice numbers, especially the +/-. Team played better when he was in the court - that’s a nice metric.

Hope he can get a two-way deal. Kings already have 2 players committed to 2-way contracts, I think. Not sure how realistic it is for him to get a 2-way with another team.

Well, he shot 39% from 3 in summer league. Really picked it up last three games.
