Newark, N.J. - Behind a 23-point night from senior Kadary Richmond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and strong shooting all around, the Seton Hall men's basketball team notched its largest ever win over an AP top five ranked school with a 75-60 victory over No. 5 UConn on Wednesday night at Prudential Center.

The Pirates shot 52 percent as a team and saw four of their five starters score in double figures. Senior Dre Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) finished with 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting, senior Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) poured in 11 points, and graduate Jaden Bediako (Brampton, Ontario) was just shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Richmond tied a program record with eight steals, which was last done twice previously by Fuquan Edwin against Eastern Washington on Sept. 22, 2013 and against Mercer on Dec. 18, 2011.

How It Happened

UConn jumped out to a 10-point lead, 20-10, with 8:47 left in the first half but the Pirates would go on a furious 21-7 rally to take a seven-point lead, 34-27, just before halftime. It came about after Bediako made one-of-two free throws that cut Seton Hall's deficit to single digits with 8:30 on the clock. Richmond stole the ball on the next possession and passed it to Davis, who found senior Dylan Addae-Wusu (The Bronx, N.Y.) in the corner for an open three-pointer.

With the Pirates now trailing by six, 22-16, at the 6:29 mark in the first half, Richmond went on a 7-0 run of his own that gave Seton Hall its first lead of the game, 23-22. Another 7-0 run, this time with five points scored by Davis, pushed Seton Hall's lead to seven, 34-27, with just over a minute left before halftime.

UConn big man Donovan Clingan scored his team's first six points of the second half as the Huskies looked to rally down 39-35. The Pirates then started working the ball inside to Bediako, who cashed in with four straight made free throws and it extended Seton Hall's lead to eight, 43-35, its largest of the game.

The Pirates only had five bench points in the game but both came at key points in the second half. When UConn trimmed its lead to six with with 13:18 left, freshman Isaiah Coleman (Fredericksburg, Va.) nailed a jumper on the baseline that made it 48-40 with 12:35 to play. The Huskies made it a six-point game again with 9:28 left but sophomore Jaquan Sanders (Queens, N.Y.) cashed in on a three-pointer in the corner that grew Seton Hall's advantage to nine, 55-46. A 10-3 run that spanned four minutes and was capped off with a transition slam by Davis made it 68-51 Seton Hall and helped put the game out of reach.
