Being destroyed at home again by Penn State. Two terrible programs being funded by taxpayers that are an embarrassment ; Rutgers and UConn. They should play each other in the Losers Bowl.

Rutgers was outscored 107 to 27 in their last two home games vs Michigan and Penn state. 80 point differential. 16 straight loses to Penn state.

UConn is bowl eligible as they are 6-6.

Some teams that are not bowl eligible as I type this.

Boston College (who UConn beat)
Miami
Oklahoma (though this will probably change tonight)
West Virginia
Michigan State
Arkansas (though this too will probably change tonight)
Auburn
Texas A&M

UCONN actually turned it around a bit this year. They were one of worst programs in country but Jim Mora has done a nice job.

Rutger's football is total dumpster fire. And what makes things worse, is the Big 10 is really not good. Every team outside of Ohio St, Michigan and maybe Penn St are not good.

Jim Mora has done an incredible job. It isn’t a hyperbole to say UConn was among the worst teams in college football last year, but this year they are comfortably in the middle being bowl eligible and having beaten # 19 Liberty last week. He did it using a true freshman quarterback, a true freshman running back and a true freshman wide receiver after losing 12 players off the two deep roster, including the starting quarterback in the top three running backs in top three wide receivers. It’s the best coaching job as I have ever seen.

He’s a tremendous guy in the Connecticut a community, showing up at pretty much every other teams games from men’s in woman’s basketball to softball. We are very fortunate to have him.

Yes he’s done a great job. And is getting the credit he deserves. If you follow college football, as I do, I’ve heard it mentioned many times on shows or during broadcasts.

Pennsylvania is laughing at ru and Schiano
Don’t we all?

Not to excuse Rutgers’ horrid season but if Connecticut played the same schedule they would not be doing better

UConn played 5 ranked opponents this season. Granted, they lost to four of them, but they did beat # 19 Liberty. Three of Rutgers wins came against Boston College, Wagner and Temple. Not exactly a murderer’s row.

The only common opponent they had was Boston College. Rutgers beat them 22–21 at BC. UConn beat them 13-3 at home.

Yeah, they’re basically at the same level

As a Rutgers fan I'd like to thank you and the State of NJ for your $42,158 dollars allocated to Rutgers Athletic department. If anyone wants their $.25 cents back, I'd be happy to oblige.
This, really. There are so many things to mock or criticize about Rutgers football, whether administratively, financially, on the field, or especially on the sideline, but it is not something that continues to flounder (directly) at taxpayers' expense. Disinterested students getting their pockets picked to support a program they care nothing about? Absolutely. But that is something they enter into willingly when they enroll there.

CL 82: Agree that Mora's turn-around has been very impressive. On the other hand, if UCONN played a Big Ten schedule they might not score a point.

That said, how does this success impact Mora's recruiting promise to current H.S. players that they will finish their careers in the ACC? Of course, basketball would follow. And don't tell me about bail-out clauses. The Werth family and few deep pocket donors from Fairfield County would cover that in a flash.

As I pointed out above, four of UConn’s six losses came to ranked opponents this year. It’s not like we are playing the Little Sisters of the Poor. Likewise, at least three of Rutgers wins are teams we would easily beat. On the other hand we did play big 10 powerhouse Michigan. We did lose… without scoring a point.

As I’ve said on here frequently, if we were offered a slot in the ACC we would take it, even if it meant paying our current $30 million exit fee. We would make that money back in a single year and still have enough left over so that we would make more media money than we do under the Big East deal. I’m pretty sure Seton Hall would leave as well under those circumstances, if given the opportunity. The only way Connecticut gets that opportunity is as backfill if current ACC teams leave to join the Big Ten or the SEC. Given that the ACC has a GOR in place until 2036, no one is going anywhere for at least a decade. Why worry about it now?

Always appreciate your clear posts. But does this mean that Mora is "stretching the truth" with his recruiting schtick to recruits?

Well, I believe he states it as a goal. If you take it as an aspirational statement then it’s accurate. If you listen to Jim Mora speak he is incredibly disciplined. I suspect he’s being very clear about what he says and about the larger message.

Will Mora be at UCONN next year?
I think so, but he’s getting a lot of attention. He’s been clear a major reason why he took the Connecticut job was because it was hard. He has a pet phrase that “hard things are hard“ and that alone makes them worthwhile. I think he will only walk away from the Connecticut job if he feels like he is not getting the support he requires from the school. I doubt he will make that decision this year.
