Yes, that was some team. Did they have Billy Gilligan too? Did they play in the SC finals that season against CBA? I think CBA had that shooter who played for Monmouth. I seem to remember watching the game at a jam packed Brookdale and RB eked out the win. What a loaded Red Bank team that was in Holden's senior year:
6'10" Tahj Holden, senior (Maryland)
6'7" Sean Axani, senior (Rutgers)
6'6" Ryan Johnson, senior (St. Peter's)
5'10" 7th-man Taquan Dean, freshman, later of Neptune (Louisville, ultimately 6'5")
Holden, Axani, and Johnson were all 1,000 point scorers for their Red Bank careers.
Yet they had a rather unspectacular senior season considering that talent. Instead of using their height and raw talent to crash the boards and overpower opposing teams, the players seemed to over-think, with Holden too often bringing up the ball and directing traffic. Maybe coaching was always his destiny.

Gilligan's team was quite good too, weren't they? They had another 6'5 kid who could fill it up if I remember right, and a couple of other real good players. I was thinking there were two terrific non CBA teams of that era and I couldn't remember which one was the other.Gilligan was Class of 1994, Holden et al. were Class of 1999, so no, they missed being in school together.
Yes, they played CBA in the SC final: According to this Holden player bio:
"[Holden] hit two pressure-packed free throws with 23 seconds remaining in the Shore Conference championship game to lead Red Bank to a 44-43 victory over Christian Brothers Academy."
I'm pretty sure Todd Billett led that CBA team. They had a bunch of other good guys too.Yes, that was some team. Did they have Billy Gilligan too? RB had Mark Donnelly and Mustafa Barksdale the year Gilligan was a freshman or sophomore. That team was really good too.Gilligan's team was quite good too, weren't they? Yes, I could picture Donnelly. Real nice HS player. And who can forget Barksdale sitting on the rim when Monmouth won the NEC title to make the NCAAs.RB had Mark Donnelly and Mustafa Barksdale the year Gilligan was a freshman or sophomore. That team was really good too.
