LAST GAME

Junior Mya Bembry (West Orange, N.J.) muscled her way for a layup with 2:37 left in double-overtime to give The Hall a 91-89 lead, but Creighton was able to take advantage with Espinoza-Hunter fouled out and Mya Jackson (Wilmington, Ohio) lost with an injury, and finished the game on a 9-0 run.

Espinoza-Hunter was brilliant scoring 35 points on the strength of 6-for-8 shooting from three-point range. She also had five rebounds. Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) played all 50 minutes, netting 24 points to go with five rebounds and a game-high 12 assists.

COOKS, PARK-LANE LEAD PIRATES IN CAGING OF BULLDOGS, 84-55

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. –
Senior Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) scored a career-high 35 points and junior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) set a new single-game assists program record as the Seton Hall women’s basketball team routed Butler, 84-55, on Tuesday afternoon.

Cooks was nothing short of brilliant, scoring 35 points on an efficient 15-for-20 from the field, including 3-for-6 from three-point range. She also had 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Park-Lane collected her second-straight double-double with 17 points and a record-shattering 18 assists, with only two turnovers. The Pirate point guard bested her own record of 15 set last year at Xavier.

Seton Hall never trailed and pulled away with a 13-4 run to start the second quarter.

The Story:

Seton Hall began the game just 1-for-8 from the field, but its defense held Butler to just one field goal in the game’s first 9:16. Five different Pirates scored in the first quarter, leading to a 14-7 score after the first 10 minutes.

The Pirates’ offense started heating up in the second quarter as The Hall started the frame with a 13-4 run. The run featured back-to-back made three-pointers by Park-Lane and was capped by a trifecta from Skylar Treadwell (Martinsburg, W.Va.), which gave the Pirates a commanding 27-11 lead with 6:59 to go before halftime. Cooks made one of two free-throws with 53 seconds left before the break to give Seton Hall its largest lead of the half, 39-18. The Pirate defense held Butler to just 30.0% shooting and forced eight turnovers in the first half.

The Pirates kept up the pressure in the third quarter, with Cooks scoring 14 of the Pirates’ 20 points. Butler cut their deficit to 17 points twice in the third quarter, but that was the closest they’d get for the reminder of the game.
