LAST GAME
Graduate student Yaya Lops (Stamford, Conn.) had a team-high 15 points, but the Seton Hall women’s basketball team fell to No. 5 Connecticut, 91-49, in a sold out Walsh Gymnasium on Wednesday.
The Pirates played well, particularly in the first half, but Connecticut’s hot shooting neutralized Seton Hall’s defensive effort. The Huskies connected on 10 of their first 13 shots from the field and finished the game shooting 63.5 percent from the field.
Freshman Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) and graduate student Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) also reached double-figures in scoring. Eads had 12 points, two assists and two steals, while Masonius had 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Seton Hall All-Time vs. the Red Storm: St. John’s leads, 50-40
Earlier this Year:
Seton Hall 57, St. John’s 48 (F) – January 25, 2025 (Walsh Gymnasium)
PLAYOFF PICTURE
With three games left, Seton Hall, Marquette and Villanova are all tied at 10-5 for third place in the BIG EAST Conference. A victory over St. John’s on Sunday guarantees The Hall a first-round bye in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament. However, claiming third place is key to potentially avoiding defending champion UConn until the championship game of the tournament.
If the three teams remain in a three-way tie at the end of the season, Seton Hall will be the No. 3 seed by virtue of its victory in a multi-team tie-breaker. The Pirates control their destiny.
AGAINST ST. JOHN’S
Seton Hall and St. John’s will meet for the second time this season on Sunday. The Red Storm own a 50-40 all-time series lead, but the Pirates have won seven of the last nine meetings. Seton Hall is 6-2 on the road this season, while St. John’s is 8-5 at home. The Hall’s last victory at Carnesecca Arena came only two seasons ago, a 68-58 victory on Jan. 31, 2023.
EARLIER THIS YEAR AGAINST ST. JOHN’S
Graduate student Faith Masonius (Spring Lake, N.J.) had team-highs of 16 points and eight rebounds and the Seton Hall women’s basketball team pulled away from St. John’s in the fourth quarter for a 57-48 victory in Walsh Gymnasium on Jan. 25.
Trailing by five points early in the fourth, Seton Hall shut down the Red Storm the rest of the way, using a 14-0 run to take the lead for good.
Playing in her first game since Dec. 14, sophomore Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) scored 12 points, pulled down four rebounds and matched her career high with six steals. Freshman Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.) finished with 11 points, three rebounds and three steals.
SCOUTING ST. JOHN’S
St. John’s was picked to finish fourth in the BIG EAST this season, according to the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Ber’Nyah Mayo was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.

St. John’s has dropped three of their last four games, including a 65-62 setback at Creighton on Wednesday. Lashae Dwyer currently leads the team with 13.2 points per game, with Mayo averaging a second-best 10.2.
