SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall women's basketball head coach Anthony Bozzella announced today that former overall No. 5-rated high school recruit Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) has transferred to the University and will play immediately for the Pirates this fall.
"Sidney's ability to score and defend both in the post and on the perimeter gives us tremendous versatility, Bozzella said. "She is a remarkable talent and undoubtedly will make an immediate impact for our program. Beyond being a great player, we're also getting a really quality person, whose character will only enhance a winning atmosphere."
A dominant frontcourt force, Cooks will have two years of eligibility remaining when she arrives in the fall. Named ESPN HoopGurlz's No. 5 overall ranked prospect coming out of high school, she was a 2017 McDonald's All-American and the Wisconsin Girls Basketball Player of the Year. Cooks played in 62 of a possible 66 games in two years at Michigan State before transferring to Mississippi State where she was a teammate with current Pirate Andra Espinoza-Hunter. At 6-foot-4, she has grabbed 347 career rebounds and blocked 65 shots. She too, however, also needs to be fiercely guarded on the perimeter as she's connected on 70 career three-pointers.
Cooks joins a talented Seton Hall team that narrowly missed an NCAA Tournament berth last season, finishing with a 14-7 overall record and placing third in the BIG EAST Conference despite being predicted to finish sixth. The Pirates return three regular starters, including All-Conference First Team selections, Andra Espinoza-Hunter and Lauren Park-Lane.
