NOTES YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Seton Hall is on a seven-game win streak, the longest in the BIG EAST and the fifth-longest in the nation behind San Diego State (18), Baylor (13), Gonzaga (10) and Florida State (8).
  • The longest win streak of the Kevin Willard Era at Seton Hall is eight which took place during his second season from 11/22-12/23/11. Willard’s Pirates have won seven straight games four times.
  • The Hall is coming off of its second road win over an AP top-five team in program history with its 78- 70 victory at No. 5 Butler on Wednesday.
  • The Pirates are in first place and 5-0 in the BIG EAST, its best start in program history.
  • The last time Seton Hall won five straight BIG EAST games in the same season was 2008-09 when it rattled off five consecutive conference wins between 1/25/09 and 2/10/09.
  • Dating back to last season, the Pirates have won seven straight BIG EAST conference games. Only the 1992-93 and 2002-03 teams have ever won more conference games in a row with eight.
  • Seton Hall has won five straight BIG EAST games by eight or more points for the first time since 1992- 93 when the Pirates rattled off six consecutive victories by eight-plus to close out the season (2/17-3/6/93).
  • Senior Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.) is only seven points away from becoming Seton Hall’s fifth 2,000-point scorer (Greg Tynes, Jeremy Hazell, Nick Werkman, Terry Dehere).
  • After a career-high 13 assist-to-one turnover performance at Butler, senior Quincy McKnight (Bridgeport, Conn.) leads the BIG EAST and ranks 11th in the country with a 3.03 assist/turnover ratio.

INSIDE THE SERIES: ST. JOHN’S

  • Seton Hall has won seven of its last 10 games against St. John’s in a series that dates back to 1909.
  • The two teams split the season series last year with both squads winning on their home floors.
  • The last five games in the series have been decided by eight points or fewer.
  • Kevin Willard is 9-6 all-time against the Red Storm. Seton Hall is 15-11 all-time under Willard at Madison Square Garden.
  • Willard’s lone contest against St. John’s head coach Mike Anderson was a 77-71 defeat against Arkansas in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

MORE HINKLE MAGIC

  • For the fourth straight year, Seton Hall had a double-digit second half deficit at Butler, and for the fourth straight year, the Pirates clawed back. And now for the third time when the final buzzer sounded, the Pirates came out on top.
  • Seton Hall ended the game on a 13-4 run to stun No. 5 Butler, 78-70, on Jan. 15 at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The win marked only the second time in program history the Pirates have beaten a top-five AP ranked team on the road. The only other occasion was a Feb. 7, 2000 win at No. 4 Syracuse.
  • The Pirates are now 21-22 in “Ranked vs. Ranked” contests.
  • Seton Hall is the first team this season to score 70 on Butler, which hadn’t given up more than 67 in its first 16 games.
  • The win was the Pirates’ seventh consecutive victory and it moved them to 5-0 BIG EAST play.
  • Quincy McKnight was phenomenal with 11 points and a career-high 13 assists against just one turnover. The 13 assists were the most by a Pirate since Jordan Theodore had 13 vs. Providence on March 6, 2012.
  • Myles Powell finished with a game-high 29 points and Jared Rhoden had 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

PIRATES RETURN TO AP TOP 25

  • After a brief absence, Seton Hall returned to the AP Top-25 this week, checking in at No. 18.

  • The Pirates are 2-2 against AP ranked teams this season with wins against then No. 7 Maryland, 52-48 (12/19/19) and No. 5 Butler, 78-70 (1/15/20).
  • The win over Butler marked the Pirates’ fifth win over an AP top-five team under Kevin Willard.
