The future may be iffy for men's basketball but the University is on the rise. .

The Alumni Office today reported: This week 1402 freshmen will enroll and 1098-78%- will live on campus. 35% were in the top 10% of their high school class . They come from 38 states and 23 countries.
One of our largest classes ever.

Their average SAT scores are 100 points higher than 2009 when DR. Esteban took over.

At a time when some private institutions are struggling, Seton Hall continues to rise.

We are a lot more than men's basketball today.

Thanks Pirate64. Great news and I do believe that the excellence of the university generally will reach the men's basketball program (eventually, I hope).

64, this is the one thing (aside from Tony Bozzella and his program) that really makes me happy about Seton Hall. Dr Esteban is seriously the most important president and force for good for the university and its impact. This is great stuff!

We are Seton Hall University and not defined by our basketball program. The above posted statistics are very telling and very positive. The medical school will further our status and be a real jewel in our crown.

Check this out...

Looks like Health and Medical Sciences as well as Nursing will be moving to the Med School campus.

Thanks for that post Chuck and for the followup too.

Aside from being a "nice" video, it seems pretty clear that this is a great opportunity. This will also open up the main campus facilities as well. Man - they are "doing it right".

Interesting and exciting.

That video was posted four months ago as an unlisted video. They said the nursing school and graduate medical programs are moving, yet every publication including Seton Hall Magazine says they're thinking about it.

Here's another video linked on the SHU site:

The video was posted yesterday. Dr. Estaban is using language as if the medical school locatoin could change and the move of the other programs is uncertain.

Regarding the site, he says "right now we're looking." Regarding nursing and the medical programs he says, "we hope" to move them from South Orange.

Esteban says there could eventually be 2,000-2,500 students at the new site. That, of course, does not include faculty and support staff. The promo video says they are going to have 738 parking spaces. Do the math.

What about dorms/housing?

I'm sure they will work it out. It's just that the two videos leave many unanswered questions.

My guess is that DR. E is here for another 5 years. Will snoop around.

BTW, was on the campus today with Coach Tony and ran into Dr. E - he came over to the car- handshake - big smile. In addition to being smart, he's a very very gracious guy.

BTW, the campus looks great - all set for tomorrow's freshmen move-in. AND lots of activity in renovating the softball field.

Seton Hall- never better than right now.

With all the positive momentum created by Dr. Esteban now is not the time to change the key player responsible for all the gains made under his leadership. Give him another 5 years to finish what he's started especially the formation of the medical school.

t is a personal burnout limit, I am sure. I hope fervently he summons the courage and energy to stay another five. He is truly amazing.

The length of the President's tenure is all over the place. Sheeran was 15 years , Petillo 5 , Dougherty 10 , Peterson 5 ,Fahy 6 , McNulty 10 while D'Alessio another lay President was 4.

The by-laws of the University require that the Office of President be a Roman Catholic priest however the Board of Trustees granted the Board of Regents an exception to appoint Dr. Esteban to serve as President until May 30, 2018.

He seems like the right man at the right time.

His father was a doctor. His daughter is in medical school or just graduated from medical school.

He's steeped in the subject of medicine.

As for the name, great hospitals and schools such as Cornell and Columbia that have teamed up in NYC have managed to work in the names of both institutions seamlessly. I'm sure SHU and HackensackUMC will do the same. To me, leaving either out of the name is unacceptable.

I wish Dr E could stay forever. Since he can't I hope the Board of Regents is going to groom/test someone so we can avoid a national search.

The issue after Dr.Esteban's tenure is whether his successor will be a priest as required by the school's by-laws or a lay person where an exception to the by-laws would be required to allow the BOR to appoint a lay person.

My understanding is that SHU is getting Lot of traction with their "State university" tuition rates for students that meet certain academic criteria in HS. This appears to be reflective in the increase in academic profile of incoming freshmen class.

So indeed a smart move by the administration to provide appropriate value for students with high academic achievement.

wish I was around for that state tuition. I paid in one year what they will pay in 4:(
