PREVIEW
Seton Hall will play in its final in-season tournament of the 2015 regular season this weekend with a trio of matches at the Cornell Invitational in Ithaca, N.Y. The Pirates will face Loyola (Ill.) on Friday at 5:00 p.m. ET, and then both host Cornell and Binghamton on Saturday.

The Pirates are coming off three losses at a highly competitive Active Ankle Challenge last weekend in Louisville, Ky. Two of the three teams Seton Hall faced are now receiving votes in the AVCA Top-25 Poll, Ohio and Louisville. The Pirates played Utah closely in the event’s finale, but ultimately fell in five sets. Junior Tessa Fournier (Redondo Beach, Calif.) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Hall will open with Loyola of Chicago on Friday at 5:00 p.m. The teams have played only once before, which resulted in a Seton Hall sweep on Oct. 14, 1994 in Walsh Gym. The Ramblers enter the contest with a record of 8-2 and have won their last seven matches. They are coming off a four-match sweep of the Valparaiso Popcorn Classic last weekend.

Seton Hall is 3-1 all-time against Cornell, including a three-set sweep last season in Walsh Gym. The Big Red enters the weekend with a record of 3-4 and is coming off a 1-3 weekend at the Jack Kaiser Classic in Queens. Cornell lost to host St. John’s in four sets.

Finally, the Pirates will wrap up the tournament with a match against Binghamton at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bearcats enter the weekend with a record of 3-8 and have dropped their last two matches. Most recently, Binghamton went 2-2 last weekend at the Cherry & White Challenge in Philadelphia, Pa.

SETON HALL NOTES
SETTING IMPRESSIVE NUMBERS

Freshman setter Sophia Coffey continues to put up impressive numbers for Seton Hall. With 308 assists in her first nine matches, only former Pirate Brittany Rahrer needed fewer matches (eight) in 2005 to reach the 300-assist mark. Against Utah on Sept. 12, Coffey set career-highs with 46 assists and 15 digs for her second double-double of the year.

ACTIVE ANKLE ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Junior Tessa Fournier was named to the Active Ankle Challenge All-Tournament Team. The libero recorded at least 15 digs in all three matches, including 21 digs and five assists in a strong match vs. Utah.

PIRATES FALL AT ACTIVE ANKLE CHALLENGE
Seton Hall dropped a trio of matches last weekend at the Active Ankle Challenge, hosted by the University of Louisville. The tournament was laden with very talented teams. Both Louisville and Ohio received votes in this week’s AVCA Poll. The Pirates took Utah to five sets.

PIRATES WIN SETON HALL CLASSIC
Seton Hall won all three of its matches in its own Seton Hall Classic over the weekend, losing only two sets along the way. The Pirates swept Notre Dame on Friday before beating Hofstra in five sets on Saturday and sweeping Temple in the championship match Saturday evening.

SETON HALL CLASSIC ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
The Pirates landed three players on the Seton Hall Classic All-Tournament Team. Grace Forren, Amanda Hansen and Cherise Hennigan were all honored for their three-match performance.

DIGS TOP-10
Junior Tessa Fournier has moved into the top-10 of career digs at Seton Hall. She’s is currently eighth with 1,179.

FORREN NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Grace Forren was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Labor Day. The outside hitter came just two kills away in the weekend’s final match from recording double-doubles in all three matches. Named to the Seton Hall Classic All-Tournament Team, she is the first Pirate to earn Freshman of the Week honors since teammate Amanda Hansen earned the award on Sept. 24, 2012.

A HISTORIC WIN
Seton Hall swept Notre Dame on Sept. 4, giving the Pirates their first-ever victory over the Fighting Irish in 20 all-time matches. Prior to the Pirates’ victory, The Hall had won only four sets in 19 matches.

400-BLOCK CLUB
With six blocks vs. Hofstra, senior Amanda Hansen became the fifth player in Seton Hall history to record 400 for her career. The other four are Claudia Vaccarone (675), Perette Arrington (494), Silvia Watson (463) and Jennifer Mumby (415).

FOURNIER, HANSEN PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST
Junior Tessa Fournier and senior Amanda Hansen were named to the 12-person 2015 All-BIG EAST Preseason Team. Creighton’s Jess Bird was named Preseason Player of the Year.

PRESEASON POLL
Seton Hall was picked sixth in this year’s BIG EAST Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Pirates were also picked sixth last season, but finished second in the conference with a record 15 BIG EAST victories. Creighton was the unanimous conference favorite, followed by Marquette and Xavier. St. John’s was picked fourth and Butler fifth. Seton Hall fell to Creighton, 3-1, in the 2014 BIG EAST Championship game.

BIG EAST DIGITAL NETWORK
The BIG EAST Conference announced its BIG EAST Digital Network schedule for 2015-16 and four Seton Hall volleyball matches are included. The Pirates will have one home match and three road matches featured on the Fox Sports Go app. A rematch of the BIG EAST Championship last year between the Pirates and Creighton in Omaha will be show on Sept. 25 as will the match when The Hall travels to St. John’s on Oct. 14. Seton Hall’s match at Butler on Nov. 8 will be shown as will its final home match of the season vs. Providence on Nov. 21.

PIRATES ADD SEVEN
With the addition of seven freshmen, Seton Hall will have more newcomers than veterans in 2015. The Hall welcomes Sophia Coffey, Grace Forren, Cherise Hennigan, Miranda Higginbotham, Caitlin Koska, Abby Thelen and Amy Vandegriff to the volleyball family.
