Early this coming week the Trove will be interviewing Mike McBride in a long detailed Q&A. Eventually I will be bringing that interview in its entirety to the free board as well because of its importance.

As a precursor here's Jerry Carino's take on the hiring.....

Dont like that he is also responsible for Pirate Blue
Or ticketing/marketing. We'll see how much he really does with that stuff though. It sounds like they just crammed the responsibilities of 3-4 jobs into 1 in order to justify the salary I'm sure he was asking for. The focus on NIL is needed, but they can't let these other areas suffer as a result.

This article will probably be the most important one the Trove has done to date.

Anyone who doesn't realize the importance of NIL and all the questions that have come of its implementations clearly doesn't understand that without someone doing what Mike McBride is being hired to do will only result in the Pirates sinking to the depths of the Big East and probably D1 basketball.

Trove readers have posted countless questions on that site that will be used in the Q&A as well as questions our writer Colin has in mind. Posting Jerry's article here despite the sarcastic comment from newshu1 is pertinent to what is to follow.

Lets just give! Sorry Annual Fund but we gotta do what we gotta do

I think everyone here, whether they like the idea of NIL or not, realizes its importance. However, I wonder if the university realizes it’s importance and how much work needs to be done, especially since they dragged their feet and did nothing for at least a year, given the job description above. Pirate Blue and ticketing are also important and need someone’s full, individual attention. You can’t cram three full time jobs like this into one. Something, most likely everything, will suffer. Do any of these positions have strong support staff? I’m thinking not because the administration seems to be a penny wise, pound foolish bunch. Two of the positions are fundraising, not Seton Hall’s strong suit by any stretch of the imagination! Ticketing is a large part marketing, something else we are not really strong with despite having a highly ranked business school. Maybe they should reach out to them for some help.

Why don't you save your critical comments for next week when you can read the entire Q&A and then give the necessary feedback to those in the administration that are making the decisions when you hear what they have to offer?

Because it was a thought I had now when I read your comment and I was wondering if others maybe saw it the same way or if I possibly missed something and others here might be able to offer additional information.

You tend to think everything the university does is just fine and you don’t question things. Maybe it’s because you don’t want to upset those giving you information which is certainly your right. I tend to question things more, which is my right. Message boards are for the exchange of ideas, we don’t always have to agree.

I don’t think cramming three vital positions into one is a good idea, neither did another poster in this thread. Maybe you think this is a good idea but I don’t. I’ll certainly read the article here and see if it changes my perspective. Maybe it will, maybe it won’t.

Feedback is critical. Both positive and negative. That was my goal in working to get this kind of access to our NIL plan.

And no I most certainly don't think everything the school does is fine. But I also don't lean 100% in one direction. Balance of opinion is the key. Keep that in mind when you post yours on the thread I provide next week.

Part 1 on the Trove now.

Part 2&3 will follow there next week.

By Friday July 21 I will bring the full story here for your comments.

Be respectful as the school wants your feedback.
Part 2 now on the Trove. Part 3 will follow Wed.

I will then begin to post the entire story this coming Friday on this site.

I will do it piecemeal over a few days because of it's length and I want to give our readers the ability to focus and respond to the individual parts.

Clearly it will be best when the whole interview is posted. But I would hope we get respectful, thoughtful and helpful feedback from our readers. The school, and especially Mike McBride will be focusing on what you have to say.
