One of our recruits who we have been recruiting for a while who was a Seton Hall lean and was even ready to commit for a few months ago now is leaning toward ST John's and is going to commit soon. A high profile NYC kid.

Can't complain. You make your bed, you sleep in it.

ST John's did what it had to do, we didn't.

Look at his Twitter all three Johnnies coach went to see him, he posted a picture with all them you can figure it out.

New coaches always bring new excitement and don't have much in the negative as they haven't actually coached a game at that school, or in this case haven't ever coached before. I fully expect Mullins to recruit well but let's see what the buzz is next year at this time. He is far from a sure thing.

Is anyone surprised that a city kid would pick St.John's over Seton Hall given all the positive press Mullin and his assistants are getting . When you compare our record the last five years and SJU going to the NCAA's twice in that period SJU is a far easier sell.

Alkins holds scholarship offers from more than 20 schools, including such programs as Florida, Kansas, Louisville, Maryland, Villanova, and Indiana. Seton Hall lean? Forgive me for being "negative," but that's got to be an exaggeration as Seton Hall isn't on a level where it can go toe-to-toe with any of those schools. I give Willard credit for making the offer, though. because you've got to be in it to have a chance to win it.

He wasn't, this is a joke. He said nice things about Seton Hall but really were hardly even on his radar.

This thread is a joke. I would have to imagine St Johns is the fav for him now tho

Hallisthebest, Did Atkins himself tell you he was a SHU lean? If so, when? Did his mother tell you? His father? His high school coach? His AAU coach? Someone on the SHU men's basketball staff?

I have never read or heard anyone suggest we were the favorite for Alkins or that hie was a Seton Hall "lean". As to our prospects for bringing in a high quality 2016 class the odds on that are against us. With the splash that Mullin has made tapping into the NYC talent pool becomes much more difficult for us and when you add in the uncertain status of Kevin after next year why would any highly ranked player come here when he has multiple other options with teams with a far better record then ours over the last three years.

Connections. Why would any player commit to a coach that has Not won one game at any level of basketball? Never coached grammar school, Jv,Varsity, AAU as an assistant or head coach!

Lean out of the NYC NJ schools I never said favorite and yes a well placed source. The issue isn't him it's that our recruiting will and already has suffered tremendously

"Lean" implies favorite. If someone such as Diallo is said to be a Kentucky lean, it means he favors Kentucky over all others.

No one listens to your posts or predictions anymore. I heard that Briscoe was a St John's lean, ( was leaning toward SJU over the NY,NJ schools) but then he headed to Kentucky. Lean means favorite. JImsouls is correct.

I don't know. Why don't you ask the players who have been on any of the four straight NCAA Tournament teams for Iowa State?

The definition of lean always changes when Kentucky enters the picture. Which reminds me. Tonight Calipari is visiting with Diallo. Yesterday was Mullin's turn. It is supposedly down to Kentucky and St. John's, which makes this a big weekend for the new Big East. I wonder what Diallo is being told, I wonder what he is being shown.

In any event, this showdown is probably more important for St. John's and the fledgling Big East than it is for Kentucky. Mullin would have some serious momentum if he managed to beat Calipari head-to-head for a five-star recruit.

besides playing time, there really isnt a reason for anyone to pick seton hall. the guys that gave us a chance have showed just how much of a mess it turned into.

Watch how good we will be on the court this year. Adjustments will be made by everyone and we are going to have a great year.

Why would a player commit to a coach that hasn't sniffed one NCAA post season game in eight years of head coaching?

We now have a talented roster. Angel Delgado BE ROY, Isaiah Whitehead BE All Rookie Team, Sterling Gibbs 2nd Team BE, plus all the other talented 2014 and 2015 players. We will win this year and make the NCAA Tourney.

We should make the tournament if those 3 guys are in our starting lineup. He obviously believes in Willard whereas others do not. But as far as expectations, he's on the mark. We should already be coming off a tourney berth and looking to build toward more.

There is a difference between saying you have talent on your roster and saying you have proven talent on your roster. Certainly in Angel , Gibbs , IW , Desi and Carrington you could say they are proven talent but some are ahead of others in what we can expect from them this coming season. The rest of the roster is, IMO , unproven and no one can predict what we can expect from them. What would dramatically improve our chances next year is to land a high quality, proven , graduate senior or even a JUCO who could give us what we need upfront. I'm not talking about players who have seen limited time or have put up minimal stats .

You are right Fln....I mean, lets just say...for arguments sake, that Lebron James decided he had enough of playing in the NBA, and wanted to coach a college team.

I mean....he has ZERO coaching experience.....who, I mean. WHO in their rignt mind would want to play for Lebron? Certainly not high profile and talented HS kids who want to play in the League....no sir. What would Lebron know about that anyway.....

You are so right Fln.......yeah.....St. John's will get no recruits. Nah, they will not out recruit us for talent....hmm...some "Mullin" guy going to beat Willard on the recruiting trail? With all that coaching experience Willard has.....no chance. Not even worth mentioning as a match up.

Yep.....I am sure that is how this will play out.....uh huh...

Fln.:answer this question honestly..who would you rather have willard or mullin?

You've got to give Mullin credit for one thing: Even if he loses out on Diallo, he ended up going down to the wire against Calipari and Self for his services. That's remarkable considering he just started on the job (granted his two assistants have both been recruiting Diallo for a while). If St. John's somehow lands Diallo, the story becomes even more remarkable.

Realistically, Mullin gets a pass for 2015-16 as he just needs to fill a roster. The big test comes the following year when he will be shooting for kids he's had time to build relationships with. In Diallo's case, he's shown he can hang with some of the game's big-boy coaches. Will that be the case with whoever's coaching Seton Hall?

Agree 100%. There are more than enough good players on this team. A halfway decent coach has them dancing.
