NOTES YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Seton Hall men's basketball team will hop on a plane for the first time this season as it heads South for the 2024 Charleston Classic where they Pirates will take on VCU on Thursday at 5 p.m. on ESPN2.
  • The Pirates are coming off of a historic defensive performance against Wagner where they held the Seahawks to just 24 percent shooting from the floor and 28 points, its fewest points allowed since 1947 when they defeated Panzer College, 51-28, on Jan. 30.
  • Seton Hall leads Div. I in scoring defense (46.8 ppg), ranks sixth in FG percentage defense (33.3 pct) and ninth in KenPom defensive efficiency (93.2).
  • Head coach Shaheen Holloway's last three teams have finished in the top 33 nationally in KenPom's defensive efficiency rating:
2023-24 (Seton Hall): KenPom No. 33
2022-23 (Seton Hall): KenPom No. 20
2021-22 (Saint Peter's): KenPom No. 25

  • Seton Hall has won 17 in-season tournaments in program history and was the runner-up in its first and only other appearance at the Charleston Classic in 2011.
  • The Pirates are 2-0 all-time against VCU with the last meeting coming on Dec. 9, 2017 in the Never Forget Tribute Classic at Prudential Center (90-67).
  • The first matchup against the Rams was a 69-54 Seton Hall victory in, ironically enough, the first round of the Charleston Classic in then-head coach Kevin Willard's second season.
  • Seton Hall assistant coach Rasheen Davis, a veteran DI assistant who has won everywhere he has been, including The Hall, was an assistant coach at VCU from 2015-17 where the Rams went 51-20 and went to two NCAA Tournaments.
  • Seton Hall has two Virginia natives on its roster and both are starters; Isaiah Coleman (Fredericksburg) and Chaunce Jenkins (Newport News).
  • With the Pirates entering Wednesday's game at 2-2, Holloway has stated that his team's get better as the season goes along and the numbers back that up:

Holloway Record By Month, Last 4 Full Seasons (excluding 2020-21)
November: 11-11
December: 11-13
January: 22-11
February: 19-12

Nov.-Dec.: 22-24 (.478) Jan.-March: 59-27 (.686)

  • Chaunce Jenkins went over the 1,000-point threshold for his career on Wednesday vs. Hofstra as part of an 18-point night and he had a game-high 16 points in the win over Wagner.
  • Godswill Erheriene has started the first four games at center for The Hall and finished with six points, six rebounds and a team-best +/- of +10 in 25 minutes against Hofstra.
  • Among active players in Div. I, Dylan Addae-Wusu ranks 26th in games played (132), 16th in steals (185) and 44th in assists (368).
  • Similar to last season where the Pirates were picked to finish ninth in the BIG EAST preseason coaches poll but went on to finish fourth, Seton Hall was picked to finish 10th in the 11-team BIG EAST in this year's poll.
  • Seton Hall's 25 wins last season tied for the fourth-most victories in program history and were the most wins for the Pirates since 2015-16 when they also won 25 games.
  • Seton Hall's 13 BIG EAST wins tied for the second-most conference victories in program history with the 2019-20 squad and was one victory shy from tying the 1992-93 team's 14 BIG EAST wins.
  • After finishing with 13 BIG EAST victories last season, Seton Hall has won 10 or more BIG EAST games eight times since the league realigned in 2013-14, which is tied for the third most in the conference.
  • The Pirates last season were the first BIG EAST team to ever finish at least five games over .500 in conference play and not make the NCAA Tournament.
  • Holloway's teams have finished below .500 in conference play just once in six seasons when his first Saint Peter's team went 6-12.
