NOTES YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Seton Hall will wrap up play at the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off on Wednesday at 6 p.m. as the Pirates take on the California Golden Bears in the third place game on FS1.
  • The Hall is 1-1 all-time against the Golden Bears with the most recent meeting taking place on Dec. 7, 2016 at the FS1 Pearl Harbor Invitational in Honolulu where the Pirates claimed a 60-57 victory.
  • The Pirates are 11-9 over the last two seasons when following a loss.
  • The Pirates were ranked No. 21 in the Associated Press Top 25 on Monday, its first appearance in the poll since the final ranking of the 2019-20 season.
  • Seton Hall is 170-63 all-time when ranked in the AP Top 25.
  • Senior guard Jared Rhoden (Baldwin, N.Y.), who scored a career-high 29 points in the loss to Ohio State, was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday following a 16 point, five rebound performance in Seton Hall's win at No. 4 Michigan
  • The Pirates' 67-65 win over the Wolverines was the program's 10th all-time win over an Associated Press top-five ranked team and their first-ever on the road against a non-conference opponent.
  • After coming back from an 11-point deficit last week vs. Michigan, The Hall nearly completed a 12-point second half comeback against the Buckeyes on Monday.
  • Despite a strong offensive performance by Ohio State on Monday, the Pirates still rank 23rd nationally in adjusted defense by KenPom.
  • The Pirates had allowed its first three opponents to shoot only 8-of-60 shooting from three-point range (13.3 percent) before the Buckeyes shot 11-of-22 (50 percent) from long distance.
  • Graduate student Bryce Aiken (Randolph, N.J.) had a season-high 16 points against Ohio State in 29 minutes, the most minutes he's played since playing 35 minutes vs. Maryland on Nov. 29, 2019 in his final season at Harvard.
  • Through four games, the Pirates have six players that average at least 9.0 points per game.
  • Graduate student Myles Cale (Middletown, Del.) is tied for sixth in program history with 129 career games played and is tied for 42nd all-time in Seton Hall scoring history with 1,022 points.
  • Just two full seasons and three games into his Seton Hall career, graduate student Ike Obiagu (Abuja, Nigeria) has swatted 128 career shots at Seton Hall and is one block shy from tying former teammate Romaro Gill for seventh in program history.
  • The Pirates return four of their top six scorers from last season, add three transfers who have combined for over 1,400 career Div. I points scored and bring in a top-25 rated freshman recruiting class that will help Seton Hall once again compete for another conference championship and NCAA Tournament bid.

Yes, I agree move the ball around and take less threes. They've been already tested by two NCAA bound programs who may be highly seeded. The team has competed well and stood right up to both Michigan and Ohio St. It's probably a blessing that most of the team's shortcomings have been exposed. Now they can get to work and fix the problems.

They need to take care of business against Cal tonight. No games are easy if you don't bring the proper focus. Hopefully, this is a game where the new players will be able to relax and just bring their strengths onto the court. That's what we would like to see.
