Captain of the women's soccer team has excelled on the field, in the classroom and in service to others.

INDIANAPOLIS - Emily Hansinger (Mount Laurel, N.J.), a four-year letter winner for the women’s soccer team, has been named a nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year, the NCAA announced as part of its release of all 517 nominees.
Hansinger is one of nine nominees from the BIG EAST Conference, which in conjunction with the NCAA, will select up to two nominees to move on to the next phase of the award selection process. All conference nominees will then be forwarded to the Woman of the Year selection committee, which will narrow down its candidate pool to 30 and then determine the nine finalists for the award.
On the field, Hansinger, a two-year captain, was a defender for the Pirates and over her junior and senior seasons she logged more minutes than any other student-athlete. In 2015, she averaged 91.1 minutes played and played 90-plus minutes in 16 of 18 matches, including each of the final 11. She was a part of nine shutouts over the last two seasons of her career.
Off the field, Hansinger has been very active in volunteering her time. She has been active with Varsity Catholic and completed a service trip to El Salvador. She has tutored fellow student-athletes in the Student-Athlete Academic Support Services office, and she has been a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for four years, participating on the executive board and serving as the president in 2015-16. Working in conjunction with the H.A.L.L. Program, Hansinger and SAAC have been a part of efforts including Reading with the Pirates, a Pen Pal Program, Seton Hall Gives Thanks, One Shirt One Body and more.
Academically, Hansinger is a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star and has been placed on the Seton Hall Dean’s List in every semester she has been a student. During her junior year, she was inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society. She graduated from Seton Hall summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and has plans to attend medical school.
Hansinger, the 2016 Most Valuable Pirate and Seton Hall's Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, is an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship nominee, was named the 2016 ECAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in women's soccer and is a nominee for the BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the BIG EAST Sport Excellence Award for women's soccer.
This is the 26th year of the NCAA Woman of the Year program, first established in 1991. The four pillars if the Woman of the Year award are: academics, athletics, service and leadership.
