Shaheen Holloway
Associate head coach Seton Hall
2010 - Current
Assistant coach Iona
2007-2010
Administrative assistant Seton Hall
2006-07
Holloway, the Pirates’ all-time assist leader with 681, scored 1,588 points during his career, the 12th highest total in school history. He also recorded 231 steals (2nd all-time) and hit 185 three-pointers (5th all-time) in 116 games. In 2000, he was named the BIG EAST’s Most Improved Player, while earning all-league status three times and All-Metropolitan accolades in each of his four seasons at Seton Hall.
After his collegiate success Holloway played professionally in England for the Chester Jets and London Towers as well as a season in Ulm, Germany and Istanbul, Turkey. Back in the U.S. he had stints with the Brooklyn Kings of the USBL and Newark, Las Vegas and Chicago in the ABA. He was invited to three preseason NBA camps with the Knicks, Nets and Golden State Warriors.
Many including myself thought that Kevin Willard hiring Holloway as Seton Hall's associate head coach was not a good move for the school. There was no denying Sha's potential but he just wasn't ready at such a young age and with so little experience to take on that particular position for a struggling Big East team.
But that's in the past. Holloway has grown in the role and now has reached the point where you can arguably say he is as important to the school as its head coach.
Clearly Pat Lyons agrees as the former Pirate star got a well deserved and considerable bump in pay after this past season.
Holloway is a very intense coach. The same work ethic we saw as a player is mirrored as a coach. Whether that be in practice or on the recruiting trail.
If it seems like Holloway's name is mentioned with just about every recruit that is considering the Hall, well that's not a coincidence.
And if the improvement of Jordan Theodore and Isaiah Whitehead was pronounced at the point in their two years under Sha, well that's not a coincidence either.
Holloway speaks the language of today's players. And when combined with his own skill set (he still plays against our roster in practice more than holding his own), ability to mete out tough love, and work ethic, it's no wonder why he is invaluable to the program.
Basing results only on this past season I rate Shaheen Holloway the same as his head coach. A+.
