We have a real stupidity issue in America. Do these people realize that they are protesting in VERY close quarters because they want to vote by mail BECAUSE THEY DON’T WANT TO WAIT ONLINE TO VOTE IN CLOSE QUARTERS ??

It doesn’t get any stupider than this, look at all these idiots.

is it any dumber than the people protesting the virus as a hoax who end up dying from said virus?

Their personal desire to vote in person or by mail is not why they are protesting.

Then it’s TDS.

The USPS has been woefully mismanaged for years and years and is financially bankrupt. Privatize it or allow competition. But I’m sure these dolts are not protesting for that either.

The reason they are protesting is that they believe the recent changes from DeJoy are intentional efforts to hurt mail in voting.

Maybe they are wrong. I have no idea. It doesn't look great inplimenting some of these changes right before an election where will have more mail in ballots than any election before it... But I don't really know anything about post office operations, so I'll sit this debate out.

Amazing that voting in person is now unsafe. We can't socially distance while voting? I guess it's not safe to go to the grocery store either.

You can pack into a Wal Mart, pack into the DMV, go to a casino but you can't wait on line a few minutes to vote. Don't you know this, Wal Mart is a virus free zone. Lol.

Come Im now. There are many places in the US where you have to wait in lines for hours in order to vote. It’s not like going to the supermarket. During this time, this would make the process even slower.

Can we all stop pretending that voting should be done the same as past years? There needs to be an alternative. That alternative is mail in ballots. I haven’t been to a voting booth in years. So unless, you open up voting for a week, in person voting is just not going to cut it in most areas of the country. This whole thing about mail in voting is a just an effort to suppress the vote.

trump is trying to act as close to a dictator as possible. i dont trust mail in. just vote by person and remove any doubt. his actions with the post office/election are criminal.

If you feel you are not at risk and want to go to the grocery story, you can do that. If you feel that you are at risk and do not want to go to the grocery store, you can have someone go for you or order online for home delivery.

If you feel you are not at risk and want to vote in person, you can do that. If you feel you are at risk and do not want to vote in person, you can do so by mail.

It's not that crazy.

Agreed but why send mail-in ballots to all then? Ask and ye shall receive.

Oh come on now, you link to every and any study on everything else in a instant AND you work for a public accounting firm but you can’t read the USPS SEC filings???

I agree, that should have been how it was done.
I'm not sure why. Maybe administratively, sending to all registered voters made more sense.

I just mean that I don't really have an understanding of why they are removing sorting machines for example. It could be for a reason that is entirely valid or it could be that they are intentionally trying to slow down mail delivery.

I enjoy researching most topics, but the operations of the post office is just one of the few I have absolutely no interest in.

I'm all for making modifications this year due to COVID, but by suggesting a sweeping change like mailing out ballots to every registered voter, opens the process up for doubt, mismanagement and corruption. For instance, in those states where you may have lines and have spacing issues, just expand the number of days you an go to the polls.

Wholesale change of the process on a national level is going to result in a delayed outcome that neither side will accept.

Oh it surely seems it's a Trump initiative to counter mail-in voting but these neanderthals are countering a corrupt act with further stupidity and they are too stupid to even realize it.

Yeah I don't understand this either. If you want an absentee ballot....you can get a "no excuses ballot" simply by asking. why don't they take the time to request the ballot...instead of wasting the time protesting? Unless I am missing something....

I work with a lot of large non profits handling their direct mail work.

While we do not interact with post office as much as we used to, it is very common for facilities to take sorting machines off line, move volume to different facilities, etc.. Nothing the post office does it done quickly, most things go through levels of review before moving ahead with decisions. As volume goes down, more and more of these changes are made.

Big mailers do more and more of the sorting/trucking themselves, similar to how Amazon does things with UPS, thus getting the best rates do to the fact the USPS touches the mail less and less through stream.

It is being politicized for several reasons:
Anti Trump
Postal unions don't want to lose jobs/hours
USPS - feel they are burdened with undo costs by government (mainly pre paid pension costs), so if Congress wants to allocate more money

Back to the original question- should people that stupid be able to vote.

I have always believed you should have to pass some type of test to vote.

Thanks for that perspective.
The timing doesn't look great but what you are saying logically makes sense which is why I didn't really want to start digging into why the sorting machines were being removed or why mailboxes are being removed, hours being reduced etc.

Amazing that voting in person is now unsafe. We can't socially distance while voting? I guess it's not safe to go to the grocery store either.

I believe it's also about not having enough poll workers. The majority of poll workers are also in the COVID at-risk category so people are likely to experience longer lines and less polling stations.

Mail in voting can be akin to intimidation at the polls because grassroots people gather those who are unlikely to vote and steer them a certain way

As for mailboxes, can only talk about what I have seen, but last year they removed boxes in front of post office in town where I worked, they were eventually replaced with newer style ones that are harder to tamper with /steal mail out of.

Also, mailboxes have been going away for years in places, especially in places were foot traffic is not high. For example, by my parents home, used to be two within few blocks of each other, one went away many years ago, the other went away few years ago, just not enough volume to maintain and have some collect mail from several times a day, and this is in high population area in Bergen County.

oh stop it

Sigh...

If you want to go to the beach, probably best to take a trip to a free state like FL or SC unless our dictator dramatically reverses course.

The dictator gives the peasants a reprieve.

Not surprised at all, Murphy acts like a wannabe dictator and his health commissioner is incompetent as well. Totally in over her head. Terrible leadership in this state and we haven't even mentioned the moron serving as attorney general and the drunk on power state police colonel (although to be fair he came in under Christie).

Our dictator took a few weeks off in an attempt to fool us, now he's back.

Was it strong leadership when Murphy sent sick patients into nursing homes?
Now he's playing petty political games by not opening indoor dining and gyms. Those were two of the industries that stood up to the dictator and now he is being vindictive. This is not about your health. This is about control, pure and simple.

Don't feel too badly about this, all of the other very "independent" thinking regular posters are struggling too.

Murphy is absolutely acting like a dictator. Trump is not, he wants to open the country and promotes personal choice/freedom.

Oh, good. For a second there I was worried it might be very obvious hypocritical behavior, but good to know it’s totally justified. Come on man...

What on earth are you talking about?

What on earth are you talking about?

It’s pretty obvious. Here you are criticizing someone for calling a politician a dictator, while you have done the same repeatedly. And your justification for said behavior is lacking in objectivity.

President totally not a dictator is taking to twitter today to tell people not to buy a product because he disagrees with their internal policies on political speech during working hours.

Looking forward to him forcing a Chinese company to sell their US operations and give a potion of that sale to the US treasury as well.

Totally normal and not something a dictator would do.

I have already explained this. Murphy has acted like a dictator since this all began. I don't know how anyone can deny it. On the other hand, Trump has not displayed many, if any, dictatorial tendencies.

The Goodyear thing is an issue. They flat out said BLM apparel is okay, but MAGA, all lives matter and blue lives matter was unacceptable and had zero tolerance in their company. That is discrimination. If people want to boycott it, that's up to them.

Tik Tok should be banned from the US. I don't agree with him pushing Oracle for the acquisition, although if they can completely cut off the Chinese connection then it would be okay.

I don't disagree about Goodyear, but how many presidents before him would tell the country to boycott them?

I'm not sure if TikTok should be banned or not. We clearly understand what the app is doing on the devices and if that isn't clear, then they should be banned. Presidnet forcing a sale to a US company and saying he wants a cut to the treasury is kind of insane though.

Why is it insane? It's a good policy for the country. Trump is all about repatriating money and companies, which is not a bad thing.

I've read your explanation. It's your opinion, which frankly hasn't been balanced on a myriad of topics lately, so let's do evidence. Please tell me how Phil Murphy has acted like a dictator?

I'll take this 3-0 fastball in response.

Please tell me how Phil Murphy has acted like a dictator?

One man is making the decisions. What more do you want? That's the definition of a dictator. Where to begin?
  • He personally plunged New Jersey's economy into recession
  • He alone restricted what people could do in March, April and May. There are some restrictions still in place for no rhyme or reason. For instance, you can't go work out at a gym yet you can spend all night in a casino
  • He is using his attorney general and the state police to prosecute people who dare do something he (and only he) says is prohibited
  • He won't let you eat inside a restaurant
  • He alone decided to borrow billions of dollars and plunge the state into further debt without consulting the legislature
  • He alone declared schools closed for three months from March until June. He didn't even provide an option to the districts until now.
  • He has repeatedly insulted his constituents, primarily through the use of the word "knucklehead"
  • He personally ordered virus positive patients into nursing homes, directly resulting in the deaths of thousands of senior citizens
  • He worked to suppress protests of his dictatorial actions, while at the same time encouraging protests for those with whom he agrees
  • He is forcing county clerks to mail ballots to voters in an effort to increase turnout in his own political party instead of voting at polling places as we have always done. This is a direct threat to the credibility, legitimacy and objectivity of the election
