Jason Hernandez Named General Manager of Toronto FC​

South Orange, N.J. – Former Seton Hall men's soccer captain Jason Hernandez '05 has been promoted to General Manager of Toronto FC of Major League Soccer, the club announced on Tuesday.

Hernandez was a four-year standout for the Pirates from 2001-04, serving as captain during his final two seasons in South Orange. Hernandez was a part of four NCAA Tournament clubs during his tenure with Seton Hall, including a trip to the Sweet 16 during his freshman season in 2001. Hernandez played in 77 matches during his career with the Pirates, tying him for 10th all-time in program history.

After graduating from Seton Hall in 2005, Hernandez was selected by the New York/New Jersey MetroStars with the sixth overall selection in the MLS Supplemental Draft. He made over 300 apperances over his 14 seasons in MLS, most notably with San Jose Earthquakes from 2008-14.

Hernandez arrived at Toronto FC in 2017, spending two seasons with the club. He helped the club become the first MLS team to complete a domestic treble in 2017, winning the Supporters' Shield, Canadian Championship and MLS Cup all in the calendar year. Toronto FC also became the first Canadian club to win the MLS Cup during that season.

After the 2018 season, Hernandez retired from his playing career and moved into Toronto FC'S front office. He began as a Manager for Player Engagement for three seasons before being promoted to Assistant General Manager in 2021.
