Seton Hall played host to 2020 Archbishop Stepinac (NY) point guard R.J. Davis not on campus in South Orange, but at the Prudential Center for their home game vs. St. Louis on Saturday night.
The 5-foot-11, 150-pounder is one of three junior guards the Pirates have been linked to over the past few months. The other two being Adrian “Ace” Baldwin and Posh Alexander.
Pirate Crew caught up with the Rivals three-star recruit post game to discuss his experience along with a recruitment update.
Davis soaked in the lead up to the game and loud student section which he thought showed strong in the team’s first contest of the year at ‘The Rock.’
“I loved the atmosphere,” he told Pirate Crew. “It was cool to see a college warm-up routine and fan section. The fans travel well and are loyal to the school, so it was good to see all that first hand.”
“It was also good to see that they play how they practice,” he said. “They bring the same type of energy and conduct themselves like men on the court.”
Even in the losing effort, the late-game defensive intensity from Myles Powell and Anthony Nelson caught the eye of Davis.
“They started pressing and Powell and Nelson made it hard for the St. Louis guards to get downcourt,” he said. “It seemed like they fed off of that before Powell hit the three to go down 1 point.”
The youngster told the site he feels coach Duane Woodward has recruited him more heavily since his unofficial visit in September. Georgia, Georgetown, Ohio State and Virginia each recently sent him letters of interest as well.
Davis has no additional visits set in stone, but he has stated previously that he may attend Maryland vs. Seton Hall in College Park on Dec. 22.
