SHU stats to date

How important is defense? Obviously very. Check out the shooting stats of our three guards.

Whitehead .374 .361

Carrington .410 .318

Gordon .400 .225

Seems like it took all season (and it did). Our assists now outnumber our turnovers.

A sign of our poor shooting and questionable offense.

We are winning on D, grit and offensive rebounding.

You 're right on all your points and when you point to our questionable offense I hope you're including the offensive. schemes Willard and the staff run.

Sometimes yhe best offense is a miss. They may not shoot it very well, but at least they can go get the misses.

When we're getting the ball inside, getting Desi involved, and creating lanes for dribble drives, we're at our best.

I agree with this statement but it leaves out one important fact when we work the ball inside like we did at the beginning of the Butler game the players have to make their shots. We missed at least 7 easy shots at the beginning of the Butler game. The passes were there the final execution was not.

Our offense is much better this year, playing to the skill sets of our guards in particular: dribble drive. The offense will look better when our young forwards finish more plays off passes around the rim. Also, our offense generates enough good looks from 3 but aside from IW, we're not knocking those shots down. We have been getting Angel more involved recently but not enough vs Butler.

I agree with this. But when Desi is on the floor we also are a much worse team defensively. Remember when we beat GTown and played lock down D Desi played limited minutes due to early foul trouble. While he is a very efficient scorer and does not take bad shots (which is incredible for a soph), he has to improve defensively to become a better all round player. Our offense is driven by our defense so Desi is a give and take. He has the athleticism to be a terrific defender, but it has not shown itself on the floor much this year. Butler keyed on him defensively. Hope he learned from that game.
